ECS Tuning Lifetime Replacement - Fine Print

This is partly a rant and partly a PSA for those of you shopping at ECS Tuning and thinking the Lifetime Replacement Program is a great deal.

I recently used the program to replace the front lip on my S6 and after reaching out to obtain the RMA I was informed the return shipping is 100% on the customer.

In the case of the front lip, that's gonna be over $100 because the box is enormous. This will result in a loss of the cash to ship it and then all I get is store credit when they receive it. So any time I would need to use this again with the credit on my account, I'll be out another hundred bucks.

    The language seems purposefully vague in the two sections that outline it;

"Once you get the replacement order, just (1) place the
old Qualifying Parts in the same box that your replacement
order came in, (2) place your RMA form in that same box,
and (3) ship the box back to us."

    and

"All returned items must be accompanied by the approved RMA form and sent back to our return address on the RMA form. You may use any shipping method that you prefer."

I'm a doofus and should have assumed that because ECS didn't specifically say the shipping would be covered that I would have to foot the bill. Anyway, just keep that in mind when thinking how great the LRP is for things like large body parts, or heavy items like rotors, you'll be on the hook to ship it back and all you get is credit towards a future purchase.

FCP Euro is the same way. The credit you get will be sans shipping cost that you initially paid as well.

The way to use this to your advantage is to do bulk exchanges - if you're sending oil back? Great time to throw in things like wiper blades, bolts, etc. under lifetime replacement.

Pirate Ship or Ship Station for shipping discounts.

    Cheers

ECS Tuning Lifetime Replacement - Fine Print

I had to replace my ECS rear valence because the mounting tabs snapped on it. That was partially my fault bc the s6 muffler exhaust valve was contacting the valence.

Anyway, shipping that thing back was exorbitantly expensive and they wouldn’t let me cut it into pieces to make it smaller. I figured what did it matter bc it was going in the trash anyway… but noooo it had to be shipped in its original box. It would’ve been $40 to ship vs $125. For a throw away item it seemed like an unnecessary requirement.

I only do light items or fluid that is super expensive like the center diff fluid @ $150/ L, otherwise you might pay too much for shipping and it isn't worth it.

Updating this with new information received.

Per the rep I spoke with about a different replacement request, I was advised to cut the part into smaller pieces to reduce shipping costs. I understand this doesn't help much with heavy items, but could be useful for those of you with large plastic parts that incur most of the shipping cost from the size of the box.

I’ve always used shipaway.io for labels when doing Lifetime Replacement returns, I don’t care if they’re “legit” or whatnot - USPS is like $2.50 flat rate and UPS $4 or $5. And considering ECS gives you the replacement box, I find going about the returns this way makes the policy worth as much as it should initially be.
