    Stereo help please.

I recently noticed that my speakers are louder for the passenger side then the driver side. When I change the balance between the passenger side only (the sound is, let's say 10 out of 10 for loudness), and when I switch it to the driver side only (it's 3 out of 10). I currently have the stock head unit (pictured below) and new aftermarket door speakers that I installed a few months ago. Is there a way to do a test to see why I'm having a difference in sound volume between the driver side and passenger side?

Also, anyone here have any experience with these speaker mounting rings?

Sounds like your head unit is dying.

The brackets should work. You can print your own. I’ve made a few sets now.

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. I'll keep rocking the stock head unit for the time being, as I have other more important items that needs attention on my avant.

I'll just buy those speaker rings as I don't have a 3D printer. I was just wondering if there was any trimming needed to get those to fit the speakers into the door card?

I didn’t have to trim anything. You can always get a replacement OEM symphony head unit from a part out or eBay. Codes can be had from eBay also for units that don’t have one.

Can you not fade to the left, like 75%, until it is balanced, and then crank up the volume? This sounds like the super low-effort fix that I would rock for multiple years.

I wanted to add, that if the issue is just with the driver's door speaker (Left Front), then it could be explained by a damaged wire in the door harness. Drivers door always breaks those wires first from the repetitive flexing of the wires.

Also, your carbon trim looks great.

I'm sorry I didn't clearly mentioned what issue my radio is having. Lets say I turn the volume up to 7 (on a scale of 1-10) and turn the balance knob all the way to the right for the passenger side, it stays at the volume of 7. Then when I turn the knob all the way left for the driver side, the volume is 2 and I haven't even adjusted the volume during this test.

Is it easy to access the door wire harness?

Thanks but I need to fix some of the carbon trim as its just carbon wrap.

Inspecting the wires isn't too hard. I think you can unclip the rubber boot pretty easy and sneak a peek. You can also unplug the connectors behind the piece of plastic trim next to the dead pedal. Actually fixing any broken wires properly might require taking the door panel off.

But with the weird behavior you have, it sounds like a bad head unit might be the most likely.

Time for an upgrade! I love my cheapo Android headunit from AliExpress. Under $100. Love the wireless Apple CarPlay.
