camshaft replacement 06f109101J to golf R k camshaft

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
We have a 2007 A4 2.0T quattro with approx 84k miles and it has fueling issues. We changed a load of parts, cam follower, high pressure fuel pump, regular fuel pump, turbo valve? fuel pressure valve in engine, walnut shell cleaning in the intake, new injectors, fuel filter and it still has issues, the garage says the lobe on the intake camshaft that runs the high pressure fuel pump is bad and it needs a new camshaft. So a few questions.

    1. the correct replacement intake camshaft is 06f109101j but according to a youtube video the golf R intake camshaft 06f109101k will fit and you get better performance. has anyone done this swap? will the car still pass emissions? do i need to upgrade the high pressure fuel pump? injectors? special tune? or will the R camshaft work with all the stock bits and tune?

    2. as we are only changing the intake camshaft do we have to remove the timing belt (it's a fairly new belt so I wasn't going to change it unless it looks to be in need of replacement)?

    3. any suggestions for aftermarket camshafts that are good quality and cost less.

    4. what parts do you recommend changing while we are doing the camshaft?

More performance at no extra cost is appealing but not essential.

    thoughts and suggestions?

    Thanks.

I run Golf R intake and exhaust cams.
There should be a thread on here that includes the measurements and part numbers.

I guess if you want to save money, it is probably cheapest to just replace the lobe driving the fuel pump, assuming you can find it (is included with some roller conversion kits). OR just buy replacement cams from INA or some other manufacturer.

Aftermarket cams? Seems like asking for trouble or gotta be real careful with what springs, shims etc to use.

Replace? From the top of my head you’ll need new cam cradle bolts, new sealant, gaskets. Maybe do the cam chain and tensioner.

Have you had the cars a long time or just bought it? 2007 came with the newer revision intake cam, with 2 piece hardened lobe. Not nearly as likely its worn as with earlier cams. Can remove chain cover, inspect and measure.
Have you done fuel pressure logs to make sure its a higher side issue? Seems they're just playing parts farts, and cam is next.
If low side is struggling, so will rail pressure.
    What codes do ya have?
Far as K cam, it's same as stock except for hpfp lobe, adds about 15% more lift for hpfp.

Jayz691. I thought it was 2007 (i'm away with work) but I looked online at the insurance card and it says its a 2006. we have had the car a few months, it was bought as a project car as we knew it had transmission issues but we didnt know about the fueling issues until we fixed the transmission. The code that comes up is p2293$07e8. I don't know how to do a fuel pressure log? My kid picked the car up from the garage and I will be home this weekend and I hope to start to take it apart to have a better look.

have a look at the end of the cam where the lobe is for the fuel pump, many were done by the dealer in the first year of an 06. if it obviously looks like a two piece assemble with the fuel pump cam pressed on, its a new rev ( hardened lobe )

Has anyone tried a small spacer washer between the high pressure fuel pump and the cam follower, to try and make up for the worn cam lobe?

That wont work, lol. Lift will be the same, "if" the lobe is worn, and your issue..
Have you even pulled the cover off to inspect the hpfp lobe??

Have you even pulled the cover off to inspect the hpfp lobe?? we did when we replaced the hp pump and to the untrained eye it looked good, no obvious lip or scoring, but we hope to get to it this afternoon or tomorrow. we are working on another car. we have too many cars and most need something doing to them.

You pulled the cam chain cover off, when you replaced the hpfp? Not normal practice, but ok.
Did you take any pics? Did you take notice if it was a 1 or 2 piece lobe?
Ya said the garage said the lobe is bad, but you say you didnt notice anything wrong. Im a little confused. Are you doing the work, or is a garage? Did this garage diagnose this by measuring the lobe, or noticing major wear? Or is this just next on the parts darts list?
