No sound from radio and battery drain

    Hey guys,

Can’t seem to find another thread on this exact issue but my sound stopped working on my RNS (mute symbol popped up) and the day after, my battery was completely dead. The battery was only a year and a half old so I’m thinking there must be a battery drain somewhere? Has anyone experienced this before?

    Thanks in advance

I found out that leaving a CD in the glovebox changer or a Nav DVD in the RNS-E for a few days would eventually drain the battery by a little bit, but nothing too drastic. Your problem might come from some water intrusion that caused oxidation inside of a connector somewhere. As for the "mute" symbol being stuck and NO sound whatsoever, the problem is with the RNS-E itself. I've heard this many times... perhaps trying to unhook/hook the Quadlock to reset the unit would do. Or disconnect the battery for about 10 mins to reset it... at least that's what others have done. But make SURE you've got the entry PIN code of your sat-nav unless you want to be unable to ever use it again ;)

Thanks for the response. I’ve removed the Nav CD so hopefully that solves that problem. As for the oxidation, where would be a good place to start looking for that? Unfortunately, I don’t have the radio pin but I’ve disconnected the battery plenty of times and it’s never asked me for it. I’ll order some removal keys and start with disconnecting the quadlock. I already tried disconnecting the battery when this initially popped up but it didn’t fix it. I’ve had this happen once before but it went back to normal after a couple days. It wasn’t this persistent.

stock rnse or a retrofit? check your wiring, the tel mute may be shorting to a ground. and if it’s a retrofit lots of bad harnesses out there have them incorrectly wired with the telephone mute to ground, but this sounds like a new problem for you. I would start by removing the rnse and seeing if that fixes your battery drain. You’ll need the PIN after removing it btw. If it does fix the battery drain, next step is modifying your harness and removing all wires but the bare minimum and taping off those pins, then isolating the problem. my guess is telephone mute grounding itself out. Grab some pin tools from amazon if you don’t already have them, they’re all MQS (micro quadlok) and MicroTimer, both made by TE.

Don’t worry about the missing pin code, you can hook it up to vcds and get the serial number. with that and $5 I can get you the pin code, or you can try your hand at getting it from AoA for free.

I’m surprised anyone’s using the nav disk anymore when the $20 custom firmware gives you the more reliable SD card maps.

Forgot to update but I just ended up getting a carplay radio from best buy which fixed the issue. Thanks!
