    Coolant migration extended warranty info

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi All,

After having issues with my car for a month regarding low boost, and eventually warnings for high engine temperatures (and almost no coolant in the reservoir), I believe my car is currently suffering from a known issue of coolant migration into the vacuum lines. I've seen people mention online that there is apparently an extended warranty for this but so far I have been unable to find any actual information regarding it. My car is currently at an indie shop but I want to see if there is any way it could be covered by Audi before I proceed with the repairs.

Does anyone have any more information they could share? Thanks!

After further research it appears to only extend to the b9 platform vehicles with the 2.0T engine in it. I guess I'm going to have to pony up the 3k repair bill and hope for a future class action settlement like the one that caused the extended warranty for the 2.0T. This seems to be a common issue unfortunately. for reference my car is 2019 with 72k miles on it.

Hi, read your post and I’m currently going through the same mess. Audi has never really resolved the design/manufacturing issues regarding the waterpumps. The class action lawsuit ended 2021. However, in May 2023, Audi released technical service bulletin (TSB) 19 regarding this issue again. When the mechanical seal of the pump is failing, it leaks coolant into the vacuum system. If not caught in time, and makes it way throughout the entire vacuum system, it’s costly. I’m sorry you are going through this.

I have a 21 S5 Sportsback. Few weeks ago, I received a repair estimate in the sum of $8892.20 ( taxes included) and the repairs would not be covered under warranty. Service Advisor said it was because my car was modded. I may have slightly became unprofessional for a moment..my car is at 48K miles. I asked for them to explain how my mods/tune caused have an effect on water pump failure? Especially since there have been a class action and now TSB 19 on Audi water pumps, but sure it’s definitely the tune’s fault. You used the mods as a reason not to perform the work. I don’t eat you to touch my car. They dance around feed me bullshit This Audi dealer previously performed warranty work on my car with mods. I knew it was a long shot to get it covered under warranty which is why I purchased the parts to do it myself ahead of time before bringing it in. I provided headquarters with all the documentation. Waiting to hear from them. In the meantime, I’m doing the work myself. Suggest bringing it to a local know European shop. You’ll pay half what the deal charges.

CUSTOMER STATES: A LOW COOLANT MESSAGE CAME ON THE DASH ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AND THE CUSTOMER ADDED ABOUT 1 WATER BOTTLE OF WATER TO THE TANK. CUSTOMER HAS CONTINUED TO SMEEL COOLANT SINCE THEN, AND HAS OBSERVED COOLANT FROM THE OASSENGER SIDE CYLINDER HEAD AREA. CHECK AND ADVISE.
    $7,921.81

Water Pump Replacement: Recommend replacement of the water pump and vacuum system due to coolant migration throughout vacuum system.

The water pump pushes coolant through a vehicle's cooling system. The water pump is operated by a fan belt at the front of the engine

Wow. While I'm not surprised that Audi denied the warranty claim due to the tune I do agree it is entirely bullshit, especially the price they are charging for the work. I did end up paying the 3k repair bill w/ my indie shop. Car has been fine ever since. Still hoping for a future class action lawsuit to be reimbursed but not counting on it. This may be my last Audi.

Could you list the parts you purchased for the repair? Or is there a kit available now for the fix? Thanks for your time!

Just had this repair done on mine. 2019 S4 with 38k miles.

Luckily it was covered under the CPO. Did you buy pre owned or new? If pre owned, check to see if you have CPO coverage.

I wonder if this is something that will happen again later down the road or if they now have better pumps.

They're all the way up to D revision on the part number now, so I hope so.

I just had this done recently, mine was more preventative at the suggestion of the shop I got it done at. Am creeping up on 80k miles on my 2018 S4 and he mentioned if coolant reaches the into the vacuum system, a lot more issues can present. He also mentioned that several sensors/solenoids could be affected and needing replaced. Mine needed thermostat replaced too.

In the interest of my long history with VW/Audi and knowing of consistent water pump issues with their engines, I went ahead and got in front of any issues. Also had the drive belts replaced.

i followed the same guide, and got all my parts from FCPeuro for like 800 bucks. Plus the 30$ version of the same solonoids the dealership wants 250 apiece for.

The only part i ended up paying ripoff prices on was the boost solenoid. (actually just failed normally, not due to coolant migration)

Looking at the Aug 2024 coolant leak TSB, it does show dried coolant on the vacuum line.

    TSB - Loss of coolant from coolant pump - V6 TFSI, 2070349/4 August 30, 2024: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...07223-0001.pdf

"In individual cases, the event memory entry “P0299: Turbo/Super Charger Underboost” is logged. This is caused by secondary damage due to the N649 switch valve being contaminated with coolant from the leaking coolant pump."

"To avoid repeat repairs or incorrect repairs, make sure to locate the leak precisely. Ensure that the coolant level has not dropped due to insufficient bleeding during production or due to a previous repair.

    Note:

    1) Traces of coolant (small quantity) on drip cup (refer to figure 1).
Due to lubrication/cooling of the seal, up to 3 ml may escape over the course of 100 hours of operation. This is quite normal and does not constitute a reason for a complaint.
    2) Dried deposits on vacuum connection are not a clear indication of a leak (see Figure 2).

    Service

Locate the leak precisely and then proceed as follows:
    1. Clean and dry the leak and traces of coolant thoroughly.
    2. Fill the cooling system to max.
    3. Perform visual check; assess whether there may be a leak at idling speed and at higher engine speeds of up to approx. 2500 rpm.
    4. Check the cooling system for leaks according to the Workshop Manual.
    5. Reassess the suspected leak:

→ No further coolant leak can be detected: continue to observe without replacing any parts.

→ Coolant leak can be detected again, replace the component(s) causing the leaks and document leaks with photos/video."

Found coolant leaking on my vacuum pump by passenger side coil packs so I decided to just bite the bullet and get the replacement done. Car is at 62k miles and noticed my coolant reservoir slowly going down over the past few months. Parts I ordered were

06M-131-055-FE - Vacuum Lines (should come with all solenoids and valves
    06M121678H - Coolant shutoff valve
06M121115KKT - ECS Waterpump and Thermostat Kit.

ended up getting quoted ~$2,100, 1k of it being labor to get it repaired at a shop. they wont be replacing all the vacuum lines, only the vacuum solenoids.

Happened to me a few days ago. JUST out of warranty. 2019 B9 S4. 49,XXX.

Failed coolant pump and contaminated vacc system. $7700 to rectify with Audi.

Tried to work with Audi USA on a good faith warranty extension and best they could do was to drop it to $6700. This is our 3rd Audi through this dealer.

So i did what any S4 fan would do, and traded her in for a 2024 S4 (CPO). Stupid, i know.

This failure will happen as the PN for the waterpump has stayed the same for your 2019 to 2024. To prevent this I would disconnect the vac line that leads from your waterpump to the vacuum solenoid and plug it if you're in a warmer climate.

I am patiently waiting for the class action to hit. Canada already has one for this platform. I ended up paying 2,500 for my repair but that also included thermostat and coolant shutoff valve replacement.

That is insulting.... As much as I love my S5 with the way the B10 generation is going and the lack of accountability for the water pump I think it may be my last Audi.

I think I misread it. Canada hasn't had one for our vehicles yet, but here is one you can maybe sign up for. https://sauderschelkopf.com/automoti...investigation/
