Question considering tackling an engine swap...

    Hi all,
A friend of mine's 2013 TT (Automatic 80k 2.0TFSI engine) is in need of a brand new motor and I just wanted to get a feel for the level of difficulty involved in swapping in a replacement motor on this vehicle and any additional info I should know before tackling this

I have owned and done my own work on all 4 a4s I have owned including swapping in a new engine for one of my B6 5spd A4s (I've done cylinder heads, gaskets , and timing and electrical stuff as well) so if this isn't a whole lot more involved than the 1.8t swap I have done I feel comfortable tackling it.

I would think sticking with the 2.0 tfsi engine is the best way to go about this? By sticking with the same engine it would basically be plug and play after getting an immo defeat on the ecu...right? 😬

If there are other engines that are good swap candidates I'd be interested in hearing about them as well. Really appreciate any input on this!

    Thanks,

    Dan

Stick to the same motor if you must replace. Look for same engine code. The mechanical engine replacement does not require Immo defeat. That resides with the ECU in the car. Is the engine not fixable?

You could upgrade to the 3.2 VR6. Was a factory option and the preferred engine among a lot of people. They are pretty bullet proof and no turbo issues bc it’s NA, you would have to deal with either sourcing a VR6 ECU or potentially being able to remap it I’m not sure
