Liqui Moly from FCP, otherwise it would be Motul. If desperate Rotella T6.

I'm in NorCal Bay Area so we don't have a real winter but will see some freezing temps here and there. Only snow up in the mountains. Call it 3.5 seasons.

Last five years (45k miles) on Castrol Edge 5w-40. Central Texas, driven year round. Probably 10-15 days a year hit below freezing, mostly hot and humid. Most importantly, daily highs over 100deg from June thru September.

Blackstone reports every 6-7k mi changes show good all around. Shearing seems to be the only spec out of conventional range, but this is common for our engines.

Good to know about the Castrol Edge results. Ran that during the plandemic when everything was out of stock and wondered if it was legit or not.

I believe Castrol is what the Audi dealerships use (which does not necessarily make it the best product). In central IL weather, I have noticed less timing chain startup rattle when using Valvoline (of all brands ;-) but I have not tried LM or Motul.

As long as it’s a quality full synthetic that’s 502 it doesn’t matter as long as you keep up on the intervals. Other factors will take these motors out long before the brand of oil becomes the cause. If it’s 502, air filters and fuel cleanliness is more important.

    Used in summer and winter.

Now using liqu Moly and burns less.

FCP charges $100 for 7 liters plus a filter. Walmart charges $23 for 5 liters and $5.72 for a liter. Rock Auto charges $5.95 for a MANN HU7029Z. So your total for an oil change would be $40.39. A real savings and better protection for your car.

Every brand has their own following. As long as you change your oil sooner, you won't have issues. But if using more expensive oil tickles the fancy and helps you sleep at night, go for it.

Right now, the cheapest 5w/0w-40 oil with VW502 cert on the market in the US is QuakerState 5w-40 at walmart for under $23/5qt. That formula used to be Pennzoil Ultra before they switched to natural gas as their base in the Pennzoil Platinum lineup.

It’s an independent tester from some ratblog site. Do not take them seriously. Any full syn that carries the appropriate approvals is good to use. I stick to Castrol 5-40 myself but any of them are fine. Pennzoil valvoline Mobil 1 and so on. If you want to pay more then go with some of the boutique oils.

Go to FCP website. Returns. You will see FCP has a lifetime guarantee on its products including oil. Buy the oil. Use it. Now the second time you buy the oil ...send back the first batch..along with filling out the form , which includes the order # of the second batch and you will get a credit on your account for the third batch. Might sound confusing, but call FCP and they can explain further

Is this common? It sounds pretty shady to do honestly even if FCP allows it. It would make me feel like I am taking advantage of FCP if I did that. (my personal feeling/opinion) I am not trying to make you feel bad about it, not directed toward you, or meant disrespectfully at all.

If I can't afford 5 quarts of oil I think I shouldn't own any of my (Audi Porsche Maserati etc.). Regular parts I am all for using the FCP Euro warranty, I just think that even if they are issuing a refund back for oil to some people, I just would feel really uneasy of taking advantage of them for something so inexpensive. Plus the fact that you're not supposed to ship used oil through fedex, ups, dhl etc.

I also feel like things like this is why companies discontinue these types of warranties and specials that they offer, people start taking advantage and the company gets pissed and pulls it away.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion/feeling on this, it's definitely not for me though. Nothing personal toward you CCSSID,

I think they are happy to keep you in their ecosystem by giving you 'store credit' which is 'free' to them until you use it. Also, most people don't return oil because of the shipping requirements and the cost to ship such heavy items from far away.

I do see these types of policies being added at other places like carparts so they must work to their advantage. Frankly I don't see why returning spent motor oil is any different than returning spent brake rotors - could you add some context around why you think those are different?

FCP actually encourages it. They even have a youtube video on the process.

It's good if you're near and shipping is cheap, and I think UPS Ground is ok for fluids. But if you're across the country, don't bother.

I have brakes and rotors from them. I'll gladly pay $100 to ship them back via UPS ground when the time comes.
