    Question OEM sunshade alternatives

2015 Q5 with the notorious saggy sunshade problem. OEM is $500-$700 from the stealership. Has anyone tried a knockoff replacement?

Yea I know you get what you pay for, but the OEM is garbage quality anyway. Part #: 1K9877307DQE8

I'm also thinking it would be cheaper to just 5% tint the glass and be done with it. Has anyone gone that route?

I have done both on my Q5 and I am pretty happy with the results.

I tinted the glass with a heat-reflective film which was great for the heat but didn't darken inside enough.

I then bought a new fabric from Amazon and followed a YouTube video that shows every step clearly and concisely. I watched a few other videos and the explanations were very lacking compared to this video. It has one major point to focus on: how the metal tape needs to be fed into the rail channel to ensure the cloth is tensioned across the frame. The other videos I watched didn't cover this and if you buy only the cloth its very important.

You can also buy the full assembly from Amazon which might be easier for you but you still need to make sure the drive system is correctly engaged. https://youtu.be/N5beaqdfrDQ?si=nzEXvBb6RVpaCvnx

All these options are $30 to a $100 each so you can have a go at all three and still be a lot less than the steelership ;-)
