Dulling Chrome or Fake Black Optics

I don't like chrome.... never have. I understand that folks like the look of it in some instances. I just don't.

I had vinyl wrapped the chrome on my A7. It lasted ok, maybe a year, then it started to distort and look unsightly. Maybe the vinyl I used wasn't the greatest. I'd rather have it black honestly, but I don't feel much like painting it (not that it would work) or maybe I should try some other vinyl.

Anywho, I had to remove the vinyl from the door handles on my A7, and it absolutely would not come of. It was baked on. I ended up getting a green scotchbrite and basically sanded it off, and the chrome underneath had more of a brushed aluminum look. I think that would be an acceptable and low maintenance alternative for me as opposed to doing vinyl or paint. What do you all think? Ideas? Is there a better method?

It’s mixed on how people solve the chrome issue. Paint or Vinyl are the two most folks go with.

I might try the VVivid vinyl. It is apparetly very hard to stretch but tough from my research. I see lots of vinyl shop folks hate it, but that is because it is hard to work with as it is thick.
