Rear deck and D-pillar cover removal in an A4 B8/B8.5 Audi

Here's a video that shows how to remove the rear deck cover and side D-pillar covers, but it doesn't show the complete process if you have a deck mounted subwoofer or rear deck speakers for the B&O system which is why I am posting this. Every video I have seen online does not cover everything you need to do to get the rear deck cover off I would recommend looking at the video first and then review the steps below for the complete process as you may need to go back and forth between them. You will need to either fold down the rear sets or remove the rear seat backrest per the video to access the rear deck cover for removal.

Note that if your rear deck has the two grille covers you need to do the following or you won't be able to remove the deck cover. I apologize for the lack of photos, but there are enough of them posted elsewhere that can show you what I am referring to here. The location of all screws that need to be removed are easy to see so it shouldn't be a problem locating them.

This step may not be necessary, but I did it anyway to make sure there would not be any interference when removing the rear deck cover:

    1. Carefully pry up the edge of the insert for the car seat attachment at the front of the rear deck cover. Use a plastic trim removal tool or putty knife and work it around the edge of the cover to remove it.

    2. Repeat for all three covers.

Remove the rear deck cover per the following procedure:

    1. Using a flat-bladed tool such as a stiff putty knife, carefully slip it between the edge of the grille cover and the rear deck cover and work it around the grille cover as you pry it up. Be very careful as the grille covers are very thin and can break easily.

    2. Repeat step 1 for the other grille cover.

    3. Remove the T-25 Torx screw securing the rear deck cover to the standoff on the passenger's side in the center of the area where you removed the grille cover.

    4. Remove the four T-25 Torx screws securing the deck cover to the subwoofer frame. This step is never mentioned in any of the videos I have seen for removing the rear deck cover which is stupid because you can't remove the cover without removing these four screws.

    5. Place your hands under the front edge of the rear deck cover as shown in the video and pry upwards to disengage the clips securing the cover to the rear deck. There are four clips along the front as described in the video.

    6. At this point the rear deck cover should be free and you should be able to work it towards the front of the car so you can remove it. Be aware of the wiring on the driver's side D-pillar so you don't get it snagged on anything and break any wires. You may need to lift the front of the cover a bit to clear the large standoff on the passenger's side under the deck cover.

You can now remove the subwoofer using the following procedure:

    1. Open the trunk to access the underside of the rear deck.

    2. Remove the T-25 Torx screw from the underside of the deck around the subwoofer closest to the rear of the car.

    3. Disconnect the wiring harness from the subwoofer connector by squeezing the two tabs on the side of the connector.

    4. Remove the two T-25 Torx screws located inside the circular standoffs at the front of the subwoofer frame.

    5. Remove the Phillips screw securing the front flange of the subwoofer frame to the rear deck. You can now lift the subwoofer frame clear of the rear deck.

To reinstall the rear deck cover and D-pillar covers, do the following:

    1. Carefully slide the rear deck cover towards the rear window, making sure the four tabs at the end of the cover align with the four slots in the chassis. You will need to elevate the cover such that it clears the standoff on the passenger's side and tilt it down to line up the four tabs with the slots. Once the tabs are aligned with the slots, drop the front of the cover down and push it straight back until the tabs at the rear of the cover are seated in the slots.

    2. Make sure the clips on the underside of the cover are aligned with the holes in the rear deck and press down on the front of the cover to engage the clips.

    3. Align the tabs on the bottom edge of the D-pillar covers with the slots on the edge of the rear deck cover.

    4. Push the D-pillar cover downward towards the rear deck cover until the cover is fully seated against the rear deck cover.

    5. Make sure the clips are aligned with the holes in the D-Pillar and press the cover into place.

    6. Repeat for the opposite side D-pillar cover.

    7. Secure the deck cover to the standoff on the passenger's side of the cover.

    8. Reinstall the three covers for the car seat brackets if previously removed.
