Hi there, glad i found this thread. My 2015 (original owner) q7 is doing almost exactly the same thing as OP described. It started about a month ago. When the car is at a low speed (usually below 30mph) and coasting (i let go the gas pedal due to traffic or road conditions, etc), if i step on the gas, the car sometimes would lurk forward and make a loud banging noise which sounds like two pieces of solid metal hitting each other. It happens when i am gental with the car. If i push the car hard, there is usually no issues.
The difference though is that my investigation points to the transmission as the culprit. Because if i drive it in Manual mode, i can see when this happens, the transmission goes to a higher gear without my input. For example, i am driving in 1st gear, the engine rpm goes to 1600 (the car is very slow), i upshift to 2nd gear. Bang, the car's gauge cluster shows the transmission upshifts into 4th gear by itself. Then it drops to 2nd and i can go normally from that point on until it happens again. I've also seen it go to 6th gear while it is supposed to be in 4th gear and the loud banging sound accompanies when the mis-sfhit happens.
So the question is if the supercharger clutch issue could also cause the transmission to misshift? or how can i test out the theory of a bad supercharger clutch?
btw, my car is a 2015 q7 premium plus with only 70k miles on it. unfortunately, most of the last 20k is local drive. And our town is notorious for winding and undulating roads and having traffic lights everywhere. I have to engage and disengage gas pedal all the time until getting on the highway which is about 10 minutes away. So this happens almost always when i am driving in town (more so when the car is old than warm). For the past 2 years, this car has been used mostly in town to drive the kids around. I suspect it causes the transmission to age much faster than open road/high way driving.
Also i took the car my mechanic who is about 30 miles from me. We tried three times to reproduce the problem to no avail. First time was when the car was in normal operating temperature right after i got to his place. Second time is when i left the car with him overnight and he tried by himself. The third time is after the car sat in his lot for 2 days and we drove together. I think it's probably because his town has pretty straight roads with less traffic lights.
Any help with diagnosing the issue is appreciated!
