looking for a little help with a charging problem. The alternator appears to not be changing the car with the output when running (measured at the battery) being approx. 12v. The battery is reasonably new but over time its charge state is around 11.4 at rest. I've replaced the battery a couple of months ago thinking it was old and need a change but it now seems as though there is a deeper problem with a chronic under change taking place. With the car running at 1200 rpm (no loads turned on), voltage goes to 12 and then drops to approx 11.7. Pulled the 2 pin connector off the alternator and see 10.4v on both pins when referenced to the battery ground terminal. Before I go easter-egging and replace the alternator, thought I would check here for any ideas. Can't find a reference for what the control voltage (excitation) should be but 10.4 seems low? Also odd that both pins have the same voltage? Any pointers very much welcome
