'01 'Silver Bullet' A8

Hello All,
Picked up a 2001 A8 a few weeks ago for a summer cruiser. What a cruiser indeed.

I am the 4th owner on paper with 220k, but basically the 2nd as the 3rd owner put about 2k miles. Been maintained quite well .... now just needs a few items... like a rear diff mount.... Everything functions except the rear headrests.

Just happy I can share wheels with my A6's now

-Popped on some OEM 19" Ronal wheels with 66-> 57mm hub rings
-BlueMusic Bluetooth adapter in-place of the rear disk changer
-Front bumper plate insert inbound

Time for some maintenance. Driver front CV feels bad and the control arms didn't feel connected. The 19's definitely exacerbated the existing issues.

So while doing the CV, the upper pinch bolt snapped, then while pulling the plastic off up top for the struck bolts... a plastic "T" for the coolant reservoir broke... Lovely.

Wheel bearing feels a bit grindy too. Time to just replace it all.

Got the passenger wheel bearing replaced. All new coated Zimmerman rotors and Akebono Ceramic pads. Front brake lines are all cracked, waiting on a set of stainless lines from ECS with a front engine torque mount. Needs rear mounts and we will be pretty set. Prepping for a bachelor party road trip.

Music adapter. I just unplugged the rear cd changer and plugged this in its place. Super simple. Getting the head unit out was the hardest part.

Thanks, It has been a great car to cruise around. Looks super classy all the time. Its been easy to work on compared to my A6. I just love it.

Diff mounts replaced. Much better. Still have a vibration under harder acceleration. Might be driveshaft related. Also replaced 2 bent OEM C7 Ronal 19's. New Billsteins B6's this week. Alignment later this week too.

Transmission mounts are NLA. I saw an S8 guy use GM mounts with a spacer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWzykSq3XWg
Front engine torque mount is also NLA. I have ordered one from several websites and they all just did refunds. I'll have to pop it out and see what can be made.

Driveshaft u-joint is cooked. Put a new carrier bearing in and helped but the joint and the end and end joints are a bit crunchy too. Found a SWB S8 part carbon driveshaft to rebuild I'll get new end joints and carrier baring as well.

S8 drive shaft rebuilt. New center bearing and end CV's. Also swapped over to my Bently Wheels.

Wife drove the 8 to a car show, Fatman's Invasion. I drove my Mk2 Jetta. Was a good time. Forgot to get photos at the show

Wife was driving and the battery light came on while she was 30 min away. She called and i told her to immediately turn around. She called again 5min later saying the abs and hvac shut off. I was like lol, shut off everything, the car is trying to save itself. Made it about 10min from home before she died. Used a spare battery and an M18 battery to make sure I was able to start and get it home.
