Hi there, just ordered the Jackal stage 2 with 192 pulley. Should i do a trans service on my car? Im at 84k currently.

If so, does a Q7 trans service consist of dropping the pan?

We've got a tuned 2017 Q7, and I had just talked to our tuning shop about doing the trans as well. We're at about 95K miles and his response was if we don't do it soon, don't do it at all. That shop generally prefers to do the trans between 60-80k miles. And, they prefer not to do anything to high mileage transmissions because of the possibility that accumulated gunk moves and causes a problem with the trans shortly afterward and they get blamed.

I was told they'd drop the pan, which allows for roughly 60% of the oil to drain out. Then, pan would be replaced with new as it includes the filter. Gasket and new hardware would be included. Price - roughly $500.

That is old practice. On a modern day German car nothing wrong with changing the transmission fluid.

There are (2) types of transmission services on this car. A drain and refill where all they do is drain and refill fluid. There is also a complete transmission service that consists of changing the transmission pan. The filter is integrated into the pan on this car so you have to buy a new pan if you want to change the filter. USP Sells a ZF/OEM filter that comes with new pan bolts and new fill plug. I just did a service on my 4M last week, it has 88k miles and the fluid was pretty bad. I would strongly recommend changing the fluid/pan as the transmission now shifting at a night/day difference. I also used Liqui Moly Top Tec ATF. It took about 7 quarts of transmission fluid.

There's a video on YT where a ZF engineer being interviewed said if you haven't done it by 125 or 135k (forget which it was), leave it and don't do it. ZF's recommendation for the 8 speed is to ideally change out the fluid and filter at 60-80k miles intervals.
