2017 A4 allroad- Camshaft Position Sensor Fault P034100
Hey I just got hit with a huge repair quote from Audi. The issue started with a Start/Stop Malfunction and then an intermittent check engine light. It has progressed to rough shifting in and out of second, rough idol at low RPM, ticking in timing area and even stall out when fully stopped at a light. Fault- P034100 camshaft position sensor - circuit range/performance

After diag Audi thinks it is the intake camshaft and adjuster that needs to be replaced-$5000 quote!!!

Done tons of research and it seems like it could be the screen in the camshaft bridge restricting oil flow to adjustment phaser. YouTube vids below are a great reference. I am worried the ticking would indicate further damage though.

Am I on the right track? Could it be way worse? How much should this repair cost?

My big question is do I sell as is prior to repair and get killed on the value OR get it fixed? I need to do front brakes, buy summer tires & now this. My big concern is if this repair snowballs into a much larger issue and sucks me dry. I am taking a big loss on the car and have owned it for 1 year.

Any mechanics with suggestions on course of action would be appreciated.
Thank you
