    Car damaged during service

After talking a couple your break from owning an Audi, I picked up a new SQ8 from an out of state dealer on 1/27.

When I went to pick up the car, the drivers rear window and shade didn't work. Unfortunately it was a Saturday and their service department was closed. Between travel and the paperwork was almost finalized transferring registration, so it would have been difficult to postpone getting the car.

I made an appointment at my local audi dealer for 2/23, to repair the window. Car had 1k miles on it.

On 2/26 my window was fixed. I went to pick up the car and it was damaged. Scratches on wheel arch and bumper. The dealer admits fault and said it'll be fixed like new in a couple days. I asked for compensation in the form of first service free, and am promptly told "we are only responsible for fixing the damage we caused". I also questioned about dage being on Carfax, since Carfax is very "black and white" referencing damage, but not how minor or extensive, and this could lead to lower value of my brand new car. I'm verbally assured it won't be reports to carfax. I leave without my car.

On 3/5, 8 days later I get a text saying it's done. Forcast has rain all day. I request the car be inside and dry when I arrive at 4pm, so I can look it over.

I arrive at 4 and my car is outside. They pull it in and the SA proceeds to dry it with paper towels. I'm irritated, don't say anything, but I should have.

Then I notice the terrible paintwork.
    -color is shades off
    - multiple fisheyes
    - black dust and red lint under the clear
    - gouge in bumper that they painted over.

The SA agrees its bad and first suggests I take it to their recommended body shop. I decline as then I'd have to get a rental and deal with the body shop. In my mind, the dealer was trying to remove themselves from the situation. They agreed to bring it to a different bodyshop. I again bring up Carfax reporting since another shop isnow invovled and how do we know they wont report the repair? Again, verbaly reassured they wont. I was promised it would be brought to the body shop first thing morning of 3/6.

It is 3/7 and I can see my car hasn't moved.

Their carelessness to scratch it, inability to follow directions of drying the car inability to keep schedule, and lack of any compensation seems like bad practice.

Does anyone have any guidance or suggestions of how to move forward with this?
During my 5 1/2 weeks of ownership, I've been without my car for 2 weeks.

I have opened a case with Audi or America. They said they'll step in to mediate the situation, but also asked what I'm looking for in compenCarfax.

At first I was unsure what to say since the problem isn't resolved, but then came to ask for:
-Per diem amount for each day my car was out of service. The amount is my monthly payment / 30.
    - a lump sum payment to make up for any marks on Carfax, or a written statement that this will not show on carfax.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Am I being petty?

The only petty part was to ask for the first service being free when they already accepted fault for the damage caused to your vehicle and agreed to fix it on their dime. That was a little bit of over reach on your part but aside from that you've been pretty reasonable by the sounds of it.
I understand the inconvenience of the situation which i completely understand your frustration. You were expecting work to be performed to a certain standard and it certainly was not.
Nothing wrong with the per diem considering the amount of time you've been left without a vehicle. I don't think Audi will give you a hard time with that given the circumstances. Ive seen them compensate people for vehicles that have been out of service for months. Asking for there to be no hit on the carfax seems okay also.
Even if it does make it to the carfax i don't think it will affect your resale value in the long run considering the damage to the vehicle was very minor since its really just paint work that was done. If it was a situation where there was a $15k+ hit on the vehicle where it needed body and suspension work then I could see that affecting your resale. I would wager that most people if they saw a hit on the carfax and you showed them the minor scuffs on the paint they wouldn't pay it much attention.
My question to you is have you been in contact with the service manager at any point with this issue?

I wouldn't worry about it showing up on carfax since it's purely cosmetic damage and not involved in a collision.

I would report the damage to your insurance and have your insurance take over. Take it to a reputable body shop and be done with the dealer. Have your insurance handle everything. I had this happen during transportation. Yes, it did go on car fax, but not as an accident. I sold the car over book value. 2 years later.
