    Engine pre-lube set up.

This may sound ridiculous but I’ve been pondering the idea of a pre-luber set up on the 3.0t. Basic rundown would be 6an flange on oil pan to electric oil pump to a check valve to a 6an swivel oring fitting threaded into the top of a billet oil filter housing cap. You could remove oil filter with lines in place due to the swivel. The check valve would allow flow from the pan to housing but not allow oil pressure to bleed back to pan once running. A momentary button out of sight but accessible in the cabin. This would eliminate dry starts and prime the chain tensioners.

    Does this sound ridiculous?

Would be cool if this tied into the door opening trigger that drives the fuel system priming versus another switch/sensor.

Yes a fully automatic setup would be great. Only thing is I believe the fuel prime just triggers the relay for the fuel pump momentarily. This would mean your oil pump would try to run after cranking. I’m sure there could be a way but I’d be ok with a button.

FYI, if your oil filter housing drain back plugs is healthy and doesn’t have issues and you’ve got the proper check valves in the engine oil passages under the PCV valve, you really shouldn’t need all that wackiness. There are literally so many of these engines running around without an issue and probably running shittier oil and maintenance schedules than any of you guys are.

B8.5s do not have check valves. There has been discussion of people adding them but all I find is suggestions and talk. I can’t find anyone that actually has done it.

I know that, but I think one guy did it.., can’t remember the outcome. In all seriousness though, I think the whole “chain rattle at startup” thing is overhyped. When it’s all said and done, it’s just a byproduct of how the tensioner design works. I think people seem to associate it too much with a timing belt tensioner, where that should be tight ALL THE TIME or you’ve got issues, that it’s blow a bit out of proportion and not really a problem. You know…?
