    B8.5 Allroad "build" update (tiredguy)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I realize this forum isn't as active as it used to be, but I've taken so much knowledge from here, I wanted to give a quick update on my Allroad. I'll list my mods, post a couple pics, and would be more than happy to go into more detail for anyone wanting a "review" of specific products I'm using. I do my own wrenching, so could add notes on install as well but I think most of these are already very well documented. Cheers and thanks to all the forum contributors over the years that continue to help folks like me!

This would look sick with a white Inno cargo box and Thule edge crossbars!!

Agreed- a white box would look great. Might have to convince my wife that we need to get rid of our old busted Yakima box!

    Thanks for contributing tiredguy

I am very interested in your views on your suspension and whether that is a sensible ride height for a daily.

I'm running identical sized tyres (yes that is spelled correctly for where I am), very similar wheel specs of 19x9 et24 (OEM RS5) and have OEM Avant S-line springs tucked away in the garage waiting to be mated with suitable struts/shocks.

    So how are the Bilsteins?

    Pic for attention

    Very nice!!

The ride height and quality are very sensible in my opinion. For context, I live in Minnesota, where we deal with a brutal winter for 6 months out of the year (this year being an exception), then massive potholes for the next 6 months... I have no complaints about height unless we get very deep snow that isn't quickly cleared. I've had my share of "slammed" cars and this is not that. Ride quality just feels like a sporty OEM, as it should!

    Thanks Tom

Sporty OEM sounds perfect. Would you happen to have those Bilstein part numbers? Ordering can be a bit hit and miss from Australia 🇦🇺.

    Thanks again, Rob

    Rob-
Absolutely. The Bilsteins were the "black" series / OEM equivalent for the S-line sport suspension. Front and rear part numbers are:

    19171616
    19171623

I also read that new bump stops would be needed, as the stock Allroad units are too long. I honestly don't recall comparing them once they were out of the car but I went ahead and ordered replacement A4 bump stops to be safe. I bought cheap aftermarket units from "Vaico". Part numbers:

    V103370
    V103372

Finally, I wanted to do a full hardware and mount refresh since I had everything off the car. The ECS "cup kit" made this very convenient. I am not sure if ECS ships to Australia but they do list all the individual part numbers on their website, so you could recreate the kit by buying parts individually if needed. Link here: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-assemble...8k0412377ckt5/

Best of luck to you! Please post pics if you end up doing it.

    Thanks Tom,

Very generous of you to share all of that. I have done my research and was aware shorter bump stops required. The ‘cup kit’ has also got me interested, will need to find out if I can source that.

I’ll definitely post an update if I ever stop procrastinating and get it done.

    Cheers, Rob

Really gorgeous car with a great stance. Those Neuspeeds are sooooo clean!
