    Intake swap info

Hello everyone I am currently in the process of replacing the cylinder head on my 2013 Audi Q5. The issue I’m having is I purchased a CAEB (plastic intake) and my motor is the CPMA (metal intake). I got everything together but the fuel rails are different and the CAEB head does not have the threaded holes to mount the CPMA fuel rail. Car starts and runs but is leaking fuel obviously from fuel rail not bolted down. My question is has anyone replaced the plastic intake with the metal one and what did you do to remedy the fuel rail mount issue? Can I swap the fuel rail to the older style or is there another solution for my issue. Thank you in advance for any info you can give!

Yeah, the missing bolt holes are going to make swapping in that direction a no go. People use CPM in place of CAE all the time, but the CAE specifics fit onto the CPM core just fine. First time I've seen someone post trying to go the other way.

The longer threaded rods on the CPM is easy enough to swap out. But the three missing lower holes, and who knows what the two upper missing holes might be for, is not something you're going to be able to amend without a different cylinder head.

Unfortunately, Audi didn't put CAE into the B8.5 Q5, so no ECM for that combination. Would a B8.5 A4 or A5 CAE ECM work in a Q5? No idea. A4 and A5 use the same ECMs, but Q5 seems to have its own, even for the same drivetrain config.

Was the head trashed on your CPM?

Thank you for the info. I have seen where people have gone the other way (CAE to CPM) just didn’t know if it had been done the other way. From what I have put together so far is heads are identical aside from the small changes on intake side so should be no tuning / ecm issues as long as my CPM intake is used. The extra holes on top are just for intake alignment so no problem there. The bottom 3 holes only the front and rear hole are used for the fuel rail middle hole was not used on my engine.

As for my cylinder head unfortunately it would have been more trouble to have it fixed than to just replace.

Other changes were made for E85 support, such as the exhaust valve seats (iirc), etc. Audi details some of the E85 challenges in the SSP 439 (google search Audi SSP 439).
