2008 A8 no start, no ignition

Have a 2008 A8 that won't switch on the ignition, only thing I get is the date and mileage that shows up on the instrument cluster. Key functions like unlocking and locking are working. Jumped terminal 15 and terminal 75 and was able to get a scan from the vehicle and seems like many faults relating to no communication with kessy, although I can see and scan the kessy module. Plugged in a used kessy module from the junkyard and the ignition switched on briefly with all lights on instrument cluster but now cannot get it to happen again which I'm assuming is most likely because immobilizer is now active. So I had a few questions if anyone knows:

1) I've read conflicting results whether it's possible to read the SKC pin from the kessy using carprog on this model year, some say you can and some say you can't because they switched over to a rolling code. Anyone know for sure? Either way I will be attempting it this weekend when the carprog tool arrives.

2) Also seeing information that the steering column lock (ELV/ESL) could be defective as well. I also this a used from the junkyard that is from the same vehicle as the kessy (and I have the key for this set also). Is the used steering lock reprogrammable to my original keys or no? I've read that once the steering lock is programmed it cannot be changed unless you have a brand new key.

If I have a bad ELV and I cannot program to existing keys, am I better off replacing the ELV + kessy and then programming the cluster and ECM to that set? Second option would be to clone the new kessy with my old one, replacing the ELV and order a new key?

Hey Sam, from what I'm seeing, I hate to say it looks like it could be to do with the Access/Start Authorization control module under the driver's side carpet... I had a phaeton with similar issues recently and ended up needing that module, water ingress as usual... also found a little forum post on ross tech about the same issue in a Touareg, our cars share some similarities electronically.

If it were my car, I'd check fuses, pull up that carpet and make damn sure its dry down there where the module and wiring are, inspect and repair as needed! Hopefully it's only a LITTLE bit of a nightmare
