Hello 👋 been browsing around on here for a couple of weeks now. I finally decided to buy an Audi. I looked for a long time and found a b5 A4 Avant with a 5spd. Is exactly what I was looking for. Bit of a fixer upper but not in terrible shape. It has the 1.8T AWT engine in it with a few aftermarket parts. The kid was doing a K04 swap on it and didn't have the money to finish it.

Anyways, I was hoping someone can point me in the direction of a good thread about OEM+ builds. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time but never had the right car to do it. With the interior of this car being almost perfect and have always been a huge fan of these, now seems like the perfect time.

I hope to get know alot of you more as I learn more about these cars. Thanks, have a great day!

Congrats! Welcome! The B5 platform gets a lot of respect but it can also break your spirit. Use the forum as a resource.

Post up a pic as well.

Thank you! I'm still trying to figure out how to post pictures.. I've been using my phone on here so I'm not sure if that's why I can't post pics or upload a profile picture..

Anyways, I've been around cars for almost 15yrs so I'm fairly familiar around mechanics. This is my first German car. I've played with nissans, Subaru's, Mazda's. Pretty much Japanese stuff. I have found a few threads that have been some good reading material. Can't wait to share my build with everyone here!

I wouldn't really recommend a k04 unless you want to get a new engine. The torque spike they produce can absolutely bend rods. Your better off skipping to something larger that will have a more linear power band. You'll already need to get a front mount, injectors turbo and tune, so I would spend a little more, get a bigger turbo and an exhaust manifold. Check out CO motorsports on youtube they do lots of VAG stuff and talk about the 1.8 A LOT, they have hte record for highest HP produced from a stock long block 1.8t. spoilers, it made 598hp

I’ve been running a Frankenturbo K04 hybrid for years and my engine is still in great working order. I love the low end torque spike for daily driving. I don’t have to be in higher rpm’s to have power. It’s always there. Motoza has tuned it for reliability so really, it’s in the tune.

OP, if the car already has a K04 installed then the next thing to do is get it tuned properly. Motoza can do a remote tune for your 2000 ATW engine.

I will definitely need a tune.. the kid said it was tuned but had zero info about it and didn't even know who tuned it.. do they have a website or is it someone on here I need to get ahold of?

Eventually I will be building another engine for this. For the first year or 2 I want to focus on making it look nice again and drive nice again. Lots of OEM+ modifications.

The spare engine I will be going forged internals and doing alot more in depth building. I still want to keep it as a daily tho so it would be conservative, 300-400HP range. Want to focus on reliability with a little bit more "umph" to it.

I also got the car started this weekend! It's unfortunately pissing coolant out of the water flange, which I just ordered an aluminum one from UroTuning. Seems to idle "ok" I believe it is in limp mode, didn't seem to have much throttle response and the EPC light is on.

And you can definitely run a K04 on the 1.8T. I did for years without issue.

Well, I have been busy with work but I have made some progress.. I have picked a CTS front mount, I changed the water flange and replaced the hose. I picked up some audi rotor wheels with new tires for $600. Fixed my cup holder. bought a compass rear view mirror and an s4 steering wheel. Next is injectors, better air intake, new maf, exhaust and a tune.

WOOO, I'M BACK BABY!! Oh boy, do I have some updates to get started on LOL... So unfortunately life reared its ugly head and bit me pretty good this year. I got in a head on collision the day after Christmas in my wife's brand new car. Been dealing with another project car in the garage all year so that took up a lot of my time, but I finally got that out of there and focused on the Audi... Now because of the accident I have not been very mobile but thankfully I have a good friend that has been coming over helping me a lot with some work. I wanna spend the next few days posting some write ups and pictures. I don't have a ton of pics because I kind of spaced taking them while working but I got a few and some good experience in the process I can share.
