Thinking of Acoustic door window retrofit

Had a chance to ride an Audi A6 C7 with acoustic glass, and the acoustic window really works!
Asked the parts shop in Hong Kong, but they can only import the parts from German and they are not liable if the glass is damaged during the transportation.
So the question is how strong are the glasses, and what are the chances for the glasses to arrive in one piece?

I just did mine the other day after a break in, these things rule. grabbed em from a wrecker for $200 a piece.

I would order them from oemvwshop and get it insured. If you can't get a glass window shipment insured then don't bother...

My '23 Prestige only has them on the fronts. I can hear something loud coming up from behind and then it gets a little quieter as it passes the front door lol

It’s the front doors and the windshield.

Audi has had the acoustic glass windshields as standard equipment on all of the A4’s since the b7, so i’m assuming all q5’s have had acoustic glass windshields as well. B7 windshields are a pretty common upgrade for the b6 guys.

There's no non-acoustic glass windshields for any audi from the late-2000's and on, I'm not sure about the a1/a2/a3/q3 cars but I know everything from A4 and up switched to acoustic glass as the only windshield option around then.

Audi UK appear to have been cunning. Launch the car with acoustic side windows and then once all the reviewers have said how quiet it is then stop in from the spec. It disappeared last Jan for us.

My 20' prestige came with acoustic glass and the P+ and P did not come with them. Not sure about 21' and up models.

I was referring to UK cars. I’m aware of the cars here, and yes it’s still prestige only for acoustic front windows.

In the UK we have Sport, S-line and then other various specs. It went from the S-line around a year ago.

Audi moved the Acoustic glass to prestige models. They use to be equipped on P+ in the B8s :(

if anyone has a lead on a part out or specifically a left side acoustic window let me know, i’ve been driving with only one acoustic window for the last month and have had no luck finding a matching one, I’d rather wait for one to pop up on ebay or a part out than spend over $300 on a new one honestly.

Anyone price out the labor yet? I figure an auto glass or body shop would be less $$ than the dealership.

Labor? These windows don't even bolt in anymore. you literally drop them into place and they have plastic spring clamps that lock in when you lower the window into place. once you get the door card off, there's no screws or fancy tricks involved. don't even need to remove the window regulator or anything. I don't think anyone on an audi enthusiast forum has considered getting quotes for labor to replace a door window yet.

But if you hate money, dealership quoted me 2.5 hours for a single window when mine got smashed (needed a quote for insurance), so call it 4 hours. prepare to spend over $1k to have a dealer install a $500 pair of windows I'd imagine a shop would probably bill 1-2 hours and charge around $300. But if your time is worth more than $300 an hour then I want whatever job you have.

I actually removed my passenger side one again today because the dismantler I got it from left some scratched up tint on it, and I needed to remove it and reinstall the matching tint film. removing the door card and removing and reinstalling the window took maybe 30 minutes altogether? Something like that. 4 bolts on the door card, 4 more bolts to remove the speaker, and a flathead screwdriver to pop the window out.

I finally pulled the trigger and installed the acoustic glass today. And the results is quite significant.

Hi all ,

I had a A6 C7 with acoustic glass and it was a dream to drive in. I traded it in for a Q5 MkII in the UAE.

Unfortunately doesn’t have accoustic glass and the the road noise harshness is really bugging me.

I enquired with the parts dept about upgrading to acoustic glass.

They said it’s not possible , sadly.

I’m so disappointed - especially as I’m sure I read somewhere that others have upgraded and faced no issues.

If anyone has done the Accoustic glass retrofit on MKII facelift , that would be perfect.

Unfortunately all of the 2024 models say “Prestige” , mine is not Prestige. I thought Accoustic glass was standard in the prestige. But maybe that’s why almost all the models say “prestige”.

I do wonder if the Prestige features on the parts website because it’s the main version that would need a replacement if it broke. And that there is no compatibility with most non-Prestige versions.

I did but I’m really not sure what your question is. The part numbers are all there, and nothing about the windows or any part of the doors has changed since the facelift.

What if there is some
kind of difference in specification between the facelift Premium vs facelift non-Premium Q5 ? Such that only the Premium can actually support Accoustic door Windows.

That would explain why the local Audi parts dept computer is saying it’s not possible with my (non-Premium) Q5.

There’s no difference, the doors themselves and the window regulators and window trim are all the same part numbers. there’s nothing to support. all the glass is the same dimension, only difference being the acoustic is slightly thicker. If you have old crusty window seals you may want to consider replacing them, as once they sort of harden into that form with the thinner glass over the years you may find pinch protection triggering more often. Happened to me but it’s rare enough to not bother me.

The Audi dealer almost certainly will not want to get involved in replacing the front door windows , even if the parts dept let me place an order for the parts.

Now my concern would be invalidating my 5 year warranty (I’ve had the car barely a month).

I sprayed some silicon spray on the window seal after the retrofit.
With the above guide, I must say this retrofit is quite easy, and I also put sound deadening materials on both doors while the door panel is taken off.

This is extremely tempting. I was already going to hit the doors with some Dynamat, to see if it helps. Might as well do the glass while I'm in there.

The glass is a 5 minute job per side once u get the cards off like I mentioned, it’s not like the previous audi chassis where u have to reach in with a T20 or T25, it’s all snap in

I use Resonix brand, CLD and FiberMat 25 on door card, CLD on outer door skin.
