    Best tune for throttle response

    Hey Everyone,

I've got a 2018 SQ5 that I absolutely love as a daily driver / family hauler, but I've had it with the lackluster factory TCU and throttle map. I tried a pedal commander, and it was a disaster – almost made driving borderline dangerous at times. Sometimes you would go for the throttle and there would be zero response until your foot was almost on the floor and then it would leap forward. I even had this happen on the highway today when I got out to pass and there was no power until I slammed my foot to the floor. I've also had similar issues even without the pedal commander, though not as extreme.

I know there's a lot of personal preference involved when it comes to ECU and TCU tunes, but I'm on the hunt for the best improvements over the stock setup. Real-world experiences are what I'm after, so let's hear your thoughts!

    1. Which tuning companies have you tried?
    2. How was the throttle response after the tune?
    4. Any issues or quirks you encountered with the new tunes?
    5. Would you recommend the tune you went with, or are you still searching for the perfect one?

    1. I've had REVO on an A4 and S3, APR on a GTI, and my current RS5 is 034 Motorsports Stage 1 ECU and Stage 2 TCU. Never had a TCU tune until my RS5. It makes a huge difference. Wish I did it with my past cars.
    2. There will always be turbo lag but you'll feel the difference.
    3. No issues or quirks that I encountered
    4. I've loved them all. I really like 034 because you can do your own tuning. And their customer service is excellent.

I have a DTE PedalBox and it greatly improved the pedal response.

Your pedal commander sounds faulty (or not set up properly) because that’s not how any pedal tuning box is supposed to work.

Ditto on the DTE PedalBox for me. Greatly improved pedal response in Sport Plus Lvl 1 for me. Haven't really had to touch it or fuss about with the other modes since install. Just works.

For tunes I'd say Unitronic or APR Stage 1 or 1+ if you want plug and play while maintaining OEM drivability. Otherwise Intergrated Engineering or 034 if you want to play around a bit for more power for track days or whatevs. For me it's been Unitronic Stage 1+ and I've been happy with that for daily driving.

Our 034Motorsport Dynamic+ Tuning is a stellar option if one of your concerns is drivability and pedal response. We've completely rescaled the throttle pedal to provide true linearity in torque request. This makes the car extremely predictable and easy for anyone to drive. This takes all of the guess work out of the question.

    Thanks everyone for the input.

Sean, Dynamic + is at the top of my list right now. I like everything I have read about it.

I have had unitronic and 034+ myself and driven an IE tuned car.

034+ wins hands down in all driving conditions - but particularly that low rpm half throttle around time driving. It just makes your car feel like a monster - but with manners. Like it has bulging muscles and tattoos but still tucks it's napkin in when it eats.

I have a stage 1 ECU and Stage 1 TCU and I'm about to upgrade to the stage 2 TCU - I just wanted to drive the stage 1 for a while so I could feel the difference.

Also, Ive been known to drive like a bit of a ham fist maniac sometimes and she never mis fires, over heats, or generally gives me any problems.

As soon as 034 comes out with their phone app / map switcher I'm going to update to the hippie crack map (e80) - can't wait to see how she feels with that on the tank.

Eventually next summer I plan to go stage 3+ - 034 just inspires that much confidence that I'm willing to tune my daily driver that I'm still making payments on.

I initially did APR right when the ECU was cracked. Switched to 034 stage 1 and TCU stage 2 a year later and it's WAAAAAY better.

Can't speak to IE or Unitronic on this platform

    Regards,
Hahaha thank you for this post. This might be the deciding review that helps me pick between 034 an IE. I wish we had E80 up the area of Canada that I am in.

I mean IE has the cellphone flashing system and 034 doesn't - for now. But IE also might have a string of blown cylinders - check the thread on the front page of this forum - so six of one and half dozen of another right?
