Let’s talk subwoofer enclosures. I want something simple that doesn’t take up trunk space. I’ll probably end up making my own, but can you guys show me your set ups for inspiration/ideas?

Pic of the style I’m going for. Thanks

What type of music do you listen to the most buddy?

If it’s mainly the likes of drum and bass and house then a setup like the one pictures would work well, however, if you listen more to genres like rock, r&b, rap etc you’ll be better off going for a free air sub installed in the gap where the rear armrest is - it can then utilise the whole boot as it’s enclosure which will be better for longer bass notes.

I had 2 free-air 8 inch subs in my rear shelf replacing rear speakers when I had B5 A4 years ago. It was pain in the neck to cut plywood to fit rear shelf, but with decent amp and some equalization tweaking, sounded decent. But if you like just add a little low end punch, consider fitting a small self amped one, instead of making your own enclosure.
    lke this:

they already have matched raw sub to enclosure acoustically and tuned amp equalization for you, and even added remote gain knob, which you will need. Just try to cut your rear interior trim and fit in in the least obtrusive way. Otherwise, unless you have decent undestanding on how subwoofer works, you own enclosure will not sound good.

I like the concept of the one in the OP, and not just because I have an avant and thus no rear deck. I understand that type of setup is better for punchy bass like in EDM, but I figure for everything else it will still be much better than my stock non-Bose setup.

Metalcore’s got a lot of 1/8th pick bass and heavy kicks so you’ll probably find an enclosed box (like the one you pictured) would be a good fit for your music as it’ll offer you more punch. Pair that with a good set of upgraded tweeters (something like certain vega) and you’ll have a pretty sweet setup 👌

If y decide to also upgrade tweeters, and like them bit brighter than stock, here is the best:

I put these after having higher end silk Polk tweeters. If you do not like bright treble, make me an offer for Polk tweeters.

Back to subs, I ended up with 2 8 inch bazookas in my current car, C5 allroad.

I’d tend to agree. My music is all over the map, and tbh, also listen to a lot of podcasts so a sub is useless then. But I like it because it’s out of the way
