    Generic Warranty Question...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This involves my 2014 Jetta TDi Sportwagen, but I'm asking about the general practices of Warranty Service experienced by you.

The TDi has an extended warranty (can you say dieselgate?) that covers nearly everything on the motor for an additional 48k miles after they "fixed" it.

I got a exhaust temp sensor DTC the other day and it looks to be covered under the warranty. ANYTHING that effects emissions is covered and they MUST lean to the owner if questionable!

Hence my question... I'm at 45k on the warranty clock. My appointment isn't for 2 weeks and since it's my Uber car, I could conceivably pass the mark.

What has been your experience when toeing the warranty line with your local dealer? Do you think they would take the mileage at which I made the claim, or the mileage as I am walking through the door as the actual service mileage?

I'm fully capable of doing the service, but I'd rather not pay $300 for the sensor if I can avoid it!

    Cheers,

    KS

I scheduled an appointment at my local dealer that was 2 months out and I think I had 2k miles left on my dieselgate warranty. They canceled on me and said they no longer have a diesel tech anymore the night before! So I took it to another dealer with less than 200 miles left on the warranty after I waited and waited for my appointment. I'm led to believe I did it out of spite because they took 7 months to start working on the car and Audi of America told me to get lost anytime I asked them why it would take that long to service a car. I did eventually get my car back with everything fixed but the car reeked of mildew from sitting under a tree, there was a massive scratch down the whole side of the car, and they gave me lemons of loaner cars once a month passed and they decided I qualified for one under the warranty. It is safe to say I'm never buying an Audi again. Anyways, to answer your question, they said it's the mileage when they do the repair and I would not trust Audi to honor anything a mile outside the warranty.

Variable depending on dealership, service advisor, and problem. If it's not inconvenient, maybe swing past the dealership in advance of the appointment, have the service advisor make a note of the odometer, and take a picture yourself. If the problem is something that is made worse by continued operation of the vehicle, I can imagine Audi being more fussy.

Yeah... that's my thought as well. I got a call back from the SA after calling to check about this. Straight to VM after they called back...so let the fun begin!

Luckily it's a "cheap" part and if they jerk me around I'll just replace it myself but I thought if I can get them to fork over for it... why not?

I parked it with 2800 left on the warranty, so I'll drive the others for a few days and wait them out!

Dealers are so hit or mostly miss... yours was a total miss! Sorry to hear!

    Cheers,

It's just an erratic temp sensor in the DPF, so nothing except my fuel mileage is suffering!

I'm going to try calling again today and may just stop in tomorrow AM. I'd like to figure this out, because if it's reported mileage, then I can go back to driving! I use it to make extra $$ for my travels and have a trip to Asia in a few months I need to bank for!

Otherwise, it's parked for the week and I'll have a few miles as a buffer. Anything that takes away their ability to balk at warranty coverage is a good thing!

    Cheers,

Being dieselgate they might void even if you were 0.1 miles outside the 48K. From what I have read by others is getting work done slightly outside the warranty period depends on customer loyalty not to the brand but rather to the service area. If you take it to the dealer for everything then they are more likely to extend the goodwill branch.

Now me, they would never do a goodwill repair as I have only set foot in the service area to go to the parts counter. And that has been pretty much all of my cars. Recalls and warranty work is just about all the time I have been to the dealer service. I had a Chevy that I went in for the free oil changes and kept going back as the price was decent but they screwed that trust up and I had worked on it myself for the next 130,000 miles of its life with me.

I agree with you 1000%. I don't let the dealer touch anything I drive unless it's warranty or recall.

Talking with the SA, they honor it from the time they inspect the mileage visually... so it's been parked.

I may be SOL, as I just realized the DG warranty is 4/48 from date repairs are done... I'm at 45k... but the recall was done 1/31/2019!!

Oh well... I'll let them turn me away at the door tomorrow rather than try and explain this over the phone!

Let you know how it goes!

    Cheers,

Well, dip me in honey and set me on the ant hill! VAG covered ALL the codes with 2k left on the warranty... but almost 7 months over on the original "fix" date though?

It took them a bit over a week (said they had a tech quit... which is believable!) but they had me in a loaner the whole time.

It went in for a EGT sensor fault, but the day I wrote OP, it popped an EGR code. They said they replaced the EGR and DPF!!!

I might have to take back a few of the bad thoughts about VW and their dealers!!! NAH!!

I pick it up in a few hours, so we'll see what's up and if they truly fixed it!

    Cheers,

    KS
