    Light Weight Crank Pulley Kit

    Coming up on 80k miles in a few months and saw in the service manual to check/replace drive V belt. Was considering just upgrading to the CTS light weight crank pulley kit. Anyone using this kit on their 8v S3?

    034 Stage 2 ECU & Stage 1 TCU, 034 Turbo Inlet and Turbo Muffler Delete, ECS Inlet Tube, APR Open Pex Intake, APR Coil Pack, APR Lowering Springs, 034 Upper & Lower Dogbone Insert, 034 Rear Subframe Inserts, 034 Dynamic Ball Joints, 034 Rear Sway Bar & end links. Rotiform WGR Wheels, ECS 15mm Rear Spacers.

    After further research, will not be doing a light weight pulley.

    on other brands/makes, i have found that this does work well.

    why do you guys think it doesn't work on this platform?

    In short, the front pulley is actually a harmonic balancer. It is tuned (much like resonators and mufflers in an exhaust system) to reduce the potentially harmful vibrations and harmonics the engine produces.

    When you remove that functionality there are detrimental effects. Further, there are upgraded crank pulleys that offer a performance advantage but it's not due to weight savings. Usually they are heavier! It's from improved dampening of the engine harmonics.
