    NEW TRANSMISSION

So I'm looking into a new, rebuild or used tranny. Some transmissions are referenced with these codes:
    Transmission ID:NHS
    NSC
    PWW
    PWZ
Are these gearbox codes and what do they mean?

Yes, those are transmission codes. The 7spd DCT is a DL501 type but depending on internal clutches, software, gearing, etc... they use a specific code. For your car you are looking for a PWW, NSC, or NHS. You don't want a PWZ, that transmission has the wrong final drive ratio, won't match up to your rear diff. Also, if you swap in a different transmission the transmission goes into a protective theft deterrent mode, it won't drive but you can read the TCU. You can either take it (whole car) to a dealer and they can recode it to your VIN or you can swap out the Mechatronics board from your old transmission.

You have an MY14 S5 3.0T, so you either have a type 0B4 6-speed manual or a type 0B5 7-speed dual clutch (aka DL501-7Q). As for the specific transmission code, it'll be on your vehicle identification sticker (in the maintenance booklet or also on the sheetmetal of the spare tire well) as well as on the transmission itself. But where on the transmission depends on what transmission you have. And Audi made transmissions don't have a nice plaque with the details mounted in clear view like the ZF transmissions.
