How long do aftermarket brake rotors for the B9 RS5 last, compared to oem rotors?

Following. Wondering the same myself. I am still sitting on an official quote from Audi @ $3075 for fronts and $2609 for rears. Really curious about aftermarket options, 034 or Girodisc, but haven't seen much user feedback.

I mean it really depends on what brand and material you’re getting just like everything else in life. If it’s a direct replacement for OE disc then it should last the same if not longer.

Can anyone with either 034 or Girodisc rotors comment on wear. For example, do you still need to replace the rotors every time you need pads?

I am very curious as well. I read this post and started to question the quality as well.

I've been running the 034 units for a couple of years now. They've been fantastic and I'm very much a performance oriented driver. I did maybe 25K miles with them on my B9 S4 and have moved the same ones to my B9 S5. They still had a ton of life when I switched them over. And new rotors aren't needed with new pads. I installed new Hawk pads on my ~25K mile 034 ones. I'm a big fan of Giro and they finally released their B9 fronts so I'll move to those when these are spent. We can provide either. I seeing Giro has 3 front kits in stock, and more rear kits will be available in ~3 weeks.

    Hope this helps!

I think he's looking for feedback from people who have first hand experience with aftermarket rotors to give info based on real life not the magical place of 'what should happen". I think we all know that often in life, just because things should happen a certain way does not mean they in fact happen that way.

Which Hawk pad did you run, and would you recommend them?

Also, curious as to why you'd go with girodisc and not 034 rotors again? The sake of trying something new or is there perhaps a benefit?

I've been running the Hawk HPS 5.0 for years. Always been pleased with them.

Mostly for the sake of trying something new, but I also prefer the slotted disc visually. I've had no issues with my 034s at all. And we've sold tons of them. Never one issue with the quality or durability. Some do complain about the "ticking" noise but it doesn't bother me. Any patterned disc that isn't drilled will make some noise as the pads compress air as they pass over the machined areas.

It's too bad that the equivalent of Porsche's PSCB rotors aren't available. See https://www.taycanevforum.com/thread...chnology.1959/

I currently have the Girodisc rotors on my 2013 RS5 and love them!

I did a track day with the wavy rotors that come stock on the RS5's and lasted two sessions before I fried them. I switched over to Girodisc and was using the EBC yellowstuff. Did not like the pads and went with the carbotech pads with the girodisc rotors. They work great for the track, especially with a car that weighs around 4,000lbs.

Finally had to do mine at around 29k miles. Went with the Girodisc option, carbotech pads. Ended up needing to do both the fronts and rears, with a local shop doing install. Saving >25% over the OEM route with Audi. Initial impressions are very good, both in appearance and performance. Will update for others when i get more time on them.

Can't go wrong with Giro. I cannot recall a single issue with them over our ~5 years offering Giro. We currently have one front set and several rear in stock.

I have been contemplating installing the 034 Brake kit...

How much of a performance difference is there over the OEM units in your opinion? The cost to get them to me makes them a bit pricey so i'd want to come away pretty impressed. Haven't really seen anyone comment on them.

I would never say it's night and day. But you're saving a bit of weight, improving bite, saving money over OEM and they look great of course. And when they wear, 034 offers only the discs as you can reuse the hats. I've been running them for 2+ years and have been very pleased.

Spot on. The main reason to go aftermarket is to save a bit of $$$ on the initial swap and if you keep the car long term, saving on subsequent changes by just doing rings. Maybe some slight performance gains. Only had the Giro setup a couple of days, but the main difference i noticed immediately is that my wheels are still clean!

That's mainly in using a different pad though im sure (carbotech) but wow is it nice. Normally after a day or 2 my wheels are absolutely covered in dust.

I changed out my worn OEM rotors / pads in January for Girodisc and Carbotech pads. Been very happy with them. Brake feel has a little less bite than OEM but is very linear, which I prefer. Wear, dust and fade resistance are all very good - although I wouldn't run Carbotech 1521 pads on track - more like XP20 front and XP12 rear or similar.

No issues on my '23 RS5, since I have the front CCBs, and the rear pads are not dusting that badly. However, on my '21 SQ5 Sportback, I opted for 034 Motorsports 2-piece rotors w/sprinkle slots (FRT & RR) vs the Girodisc 2-piece rotors w/slots because Girodisc didn't initially offer the 350mm front rotors. I equipped them with Hawk HPS 5.0 pads, which I had experience with on other cars.

My issue with the 034 Motorsports sprinkle slots is the audible noise/rumble when under medium to hard braking. I thought when I "knocked the edges off" the sprinkle slots, that the audible noise/rumble would mitigate itself, but it hasn't.

Now, I am seriously contemplating switching out the 034 rotors for either the Girodisc or the JHM Motorsports rotors, which are both simply slotted. I know with slotted that you can hear some noise if your coming down from speed on an off-ramp against an acoustic barrier or a viaduct wall, but it's nowhere near as noticeable in the cabin under braking that I currently experience. So yeah, label me disappointed.

Apparently changing back to stock pads is the answer, but the stock pads are soooooooooooo dusty. Nah...

Right? No way. I'm pumped to try the Giros on my S5.
