    Oil Change at 6k miles?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was told I wouldn’t need my first oil change till around 10-12k miles. It’s just below 6k miles and it says I’m low. Anyone else have this issue? I don’t drive it crazy but it is mainly city driving.

Yeah thats normal for a new RS6/RS7 as the engine breaks in. I had to change mines at 5k as it was low but now my RS7 is holding oil well between the 10k service and I am at 15k miles.

I do 5k changes normally. Audicare takes care of one each year and I pay for one if needed in-between. I'm about 3k into an oil change and am down about 3/8ths a quart which is fairly normal for summer and the amount of expressway driving I do during that season.

I did my first at 5000 and will continue at that interval. I basically drive 75% highway.

Topping up with 1 quart/liter of oil between the regular oil change interval is normal.

Just hit 5,000 miles and car went into service 18 months ago, just had my 3rd oil change. Cheap insurance. Plus service packages age out on miles or time.

I’ve just got my RS7 serviced for an oil change. Is it normal for the exhaust to be much quieter? Not much pops and crackles than before for an example.

I was on 10k miles oil change intervals as suggested by manufacturer. But always needs to top up the oil in between (yeah I keep a quart of oil in the garage). I just did an oil change myself at 25k miles. The oil is pretty dark already after 5k miles, so it might be a good idea to change oil in 5k intervals.

I have to add oil and the manual said to call the dealer for oil type. So, they said 5W-40 Full Synthetic...though any mfg was fine, the service department said Castrol Edge is called out. my RS6 told me i need to add 2 quarts of oil...at least that's what i recall seeing 'but it is ok to drive'. I have 20K on the car and last oil change was @ 15k. That is when i bought it so have no prior history.

Oil spec for this car is VW 511.00; choose spec over weight for any oil in Audi engines (weight will be dictated by the spec that is required; but 511.00 will be 0 or 5W-40). If you are topping up you can 'loosely' utilize other oil that meets older VW spec and weights that are similar (VW 502 etc).

511.00 is a relatively new spec (2018) so not a lot out there, Porsche C40 is the Porsche oil spec for this engine, so typically oil that carries one will carry the other since this engine was developed by Porsche. Basically from the documentation it prioritizes sludge and piston deposits over fuel economy all while being friendly to Environmental Sensors etc.

Autozone, at least in my area, carries Mobil 1 ESP X3 0W-40 (early bottles are C40 approval stamped, newer bottles now include VW 511.00). That is what I use; just makes sure its the X3 version!
