    Alternator early warning sign?

I stopped 45min into a 3hr drive (crying baby). And when I restarted the car after a few min and it felt like a bit of a weak start - I got the dreaded Electrical System Fault warning immediately, then followed up by a Sport Differential Fault after a few seconds. Given the horror stories and that I had the full family in the middle of no where that was a concern. After a few min at idle I turned it off and then back on - started just fine and no warning lights. Decided to push on (with a close eye on everything) and made it home after 2+ hrs of no issues. Took it for a spin afterwards as well and drove just fine.

So - fluke? Or early sign I’m in for trouble? (Yes, I have called the dealer and waiting on an appointment but wanted to check in here as well).

I think this is an early warning sign. Def take it in and have them scan the car.

I agree, I had this same issue with both my A7 and RS7. Both times it went south really fast after the first warning.

Appreciate it. Car is at the dealership - hopefully if there is something wrong they find it vs just saying it is all clear (as the warnings haven’t shown up since then and the car is running just fine now) only to have it die on the weekend on my next long trip….

Well electrical issue confirmed, but unclear exactly what. Dealer talking with corporate tech to try to figure it out. Glad I took it in.

Got the car back - It was a bad voltage regulator. So an issue, but not the core alternator issue.
