    3.0T Rasp - Installed ECS X-Pipe

    Hey all,

This has been asked a lot but I wanted to start a new thread to get some ideas instead of digging up an older thread. I installed an ECS X-Pipe (courtesy of youngd59, thank you!) and overall am happy. It fixed my exhaust rattle and gives the car some more sound. However above ~4,800 RPM it gets really raspy and tinny, almost like someone threw a tin can inside my exhaust. I do have two small mufflers lying around that I was originally going to swap in place of the center resonator until youngd59 messaged me about his X-pipe. If I installed these mufflers that I have lying around (I have two for each exhaust pipe), would that possibly help the rasp? If it does would it be better to install this before or after the ECS x-pipe to reduce the rasp? This video, where the guy cut out the suitcase and installed these TotalFlow 643 looks promising: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3BUhIUb7BA

    Thanks!

    Quite possibly.

I think people usually get a magnaflow x pipe 11386 I think is the number.

Installing that x-pipe was the single worst mod I have done to my car, and I regret throwing my center res away in the metal bin. I typically try and warn everyone that it sounds like garbage, and had you asked before you did it, I would have told you not to. I almost feel bad trying to sell it when I take it off.

Taking your tune off makes a significant difference... but who wants to do that. If you aren't tuned yet, it will get worse when you add one.

My plan was to go to a single exhaust until I found an AWE exhaust for a good deal. It still hurt paying a grand for it though.

I also hear the vibrant ultraquiet resonators work well.

My whole thing was, if you are just adding a magnaflow resonator... why not just keep the stock pipes and just add the resonator.

That said, some people think it sounds great, but some people also like their steak well done and served with ketchup.

Haha. I'd love to get an AWE Touring but college + first apartment rent doesn't make me feel comfortable dropping 1k on an exhaust (even though I can, I'd rather wait a while). I've also read that cutting out the rear mufflers and installing S6/S7 mufflers can help according to this thread (Setup 2) https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...ng)?p=14946695 Even though I didn't do a center resonator delete but rather an x-pipe, would S6/S7 mufflers help with the rasp or is that rasp coming from the x-pipe itself? I.E. does this rasp I'm getting come from the install from the x-pipe or would it also be there if I removed the center resonator and did a straight pipe?

I saw where someone cut open some b8s4 mufflers and repacked them. If you look at the construction of the inside of our mufflers it wouldn't be a hard tas of you could weld.

What do you mean by repack? Also how are the B8 S4, C7 A6/A7, and C7 S6/S7 mufflers different?

Haha all good! I already threw the x-pipe. Should I install the TotalFlow mufflers before/after the x-pipe or should I just source S6/S7 S4/S5 rear mufflers?
