034 X34 intake vs CTS intake?

Wondering if anyone has experience with both the X34 and CTS intakes for RS5?

I know there is not much performance gains either way, but I am wanting a new intake that is more open so it does not collect debris in the box. My OEM intake was pretty clogged up with leaves and am hoping to open things up and also have an intake that is not too difficult to clean often.

the CTS looks better for my purpose but my concern would be if heat soak is an issue at all? The X34 looks nice, but seems more difficult to clean and the filter area also seems to be smaller.

Ended up ordering X34 through Mops@Nemesis

After doing some research the X34 seemed like a reasonable medium between semi-open box and being shielded from heat while utilizing the OEM snorkel.

It also will look nice to add that CF box.

I have had both. The CTS made much better tone but was fully open and prone to heat soak. Really loved the sound. I would have kept it but it was pretty beat up over time by the previous owner. The x34 looks ok but the plain box could have had an 034 logo in color that would have made it look nicer. Quieter, more contained and less heat soak (theoretically. have not done any true testing). It will be more of a pain to clean the filter but so far seems to work well and should provide better airflow than the oem box.

How much will you need to disassemble in order to get the filter out of the x34?

Thanks for the detailed reply; I appreciate the info. After looking at designs and reading reviews, as you mentioned I think that theoretically the open filter would suck tons of hot air, especially since it gets so hot with the Hot-V setup. Ended up with 034 to get the semi-open box intake. So far I vaccumed the OEM filter and box out to hold me over till the intake comes in and there is already a huge difference in performance and even normal driving.

The whole thing. It’s not hard, but no room to access the filter otherwise. Probably 10-15 mins but have to remove the cowl, and inlet duct then loosen the clamps etc and pull the whole box out.

That’s what I was afraid of. Sounds like they could have designed it better.

I’d like to get an 034 intake, but I don’t want to be pulling the whole thing out every month or so just to clean my filter.
