    Creaking Sound

I have a 2014 S5 mods in my sig. For close to a year I've been hearing a metallic, creaking sound when I decelerate from 40-20. It happens when I brake or just take my foot off the accelerator. I thought it was something in the suspension but since I have changed all control arms, sway bars, end links and coil overs and I still hear this weird creaking sound when I slow down. The shop that has been doing all my work says its something in the transmission when the car is dropping from 3rd to 2nd gear and they're suggesting that I replace the transmission?

I drive it in manual and I still hear the same sound when I'm slowing down in 5th or 4th gear.

I'm putting out about 485 hp and I was going to port the blower and upgrade the throttle body next but if the increase power is already causing issues why bother?

Please advise any input would be appreciated.

So what is a safe horsepower limit for the S5 transmission? I don't track it and have only launched like 3 times relatively conservative, local driving. Follow up, are there any trany upgrades to help handle the extra power?
    Thanks

So after localizing the noise, the audi tech determined the noise was from the tranny, consistently creaking sound when slowing down around 35 mph. They do not rebuild and are suggesting a new tranny: $16,000 installed. Any advise on rebuild, used or new tranny, HELP.

Transmission input is rated for torque, not horsepower, as far as I'm tracking. Do you hear the creaking noise when you rev it? Do you hear it if you're coasting on neutral? Seems odd tbh. The gears in the trans are pretty strong, dual mass flywheel on the hand, not so much.

I have not heard it when revving, I hear it both when I 'm coasting and breaking in D mode. I do not hear it when slowing down in S mode but it does make the creaking in S mode when up shifting to 3rd. I have not tried coasting in neutral.

Whinny SQ5, it does make the creaking sound in neutral right at 35 mph, weird.

That's so odd! I was just trying to figure out if the noise was rev dependent or not. Seems like it isn't. The creaking is the only symptom you have? And it hasn't gotten worse since it started a year ago?

Did they service both sides of the transmission? DSG and gear fluid both looked good? If they are saying the trans needs to be replaced, I feel like at least one of the fluids would look sparkly or have pieces of metal in it.

Its definitely a problem with third gear. In S mode when up shifting to 4th and in D mode when down shifting to 3rd. I did not expect to hear the creaking in neutral and I was surprised to hear it. However, I do think it is rev related at low RPMs. That's why it doesn't make the sound down shifting in S mode because the RPMs kick up on down shifts. On the up shift it tends to stay in 3rd until I rev up the RPMs.

    Will Audi Gods please help?

It was serviced at the Audi dealer so I assume it was serviced properly. I did complain about the sound but they kind of blew it of for suspension issues with all my aftermarket components. They ran diagnostics and no faults were detected and told me everything was fine. I had to take it back and test drive it with the tech until he finally heard the creaking sound then actually took a more serious interest in the issue. He said it may be the mech unit or tranny and he would have to check it in the air. That's when he realized it was a transmission issue and that I would need to replace it. The noise has been going on for over a year not any worse just annoying.

So tranny finally died, went into limp mode, would not shift gears and no reverse. Its at the shop waiting to replace tranny. I got a deal on a used 3 k miles PWW. Now I just have to find a shop to replace the cats for test pipes. Big problem in PA, no shop I've talked to will do that.
