    Loss Of Power P0299

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

I was driving home after work on the highway and went to floor it around some cars and I had nothing no power at all. It didn't throw any check engine light just no power. Downshifted and wouldn't increase speed. For reference I had the FBO stage 2 EPL tune in.

I checked for any codes and I got P0299. Returned it to stock and still the same issue.

Brought it to my local Audi enthusiast shop. They looked into it n think it might be a bad turbo. They are going to pull the inlet off and take a look inside n let me know if it looks bad.

The car was tuned with EPL since I had about 10k miles and it's at 35k now.

You guys have any ideas what it could be? If I need a new turbo what do you guys suggest on where to get it? Don't have the funds for a hybrid turbo unless a hybrid turbo is the same price as a stock one.

    Thanks in advance.

Hopefully that's what it is cuz I don't have the funds at the moment to replace the turbo.

Just reach in and wiggle the pipe connected to the throttle body.
I've had mine pop off before

The shop called and said turbo isn't spinning and they would call me Monday with price quotes on new turbo options. This is ridiculous how could the turbo be bad at only 35k miles.

Seems odd. They said it won't spin at all. What else could be causing the issue. My wife followed me as I drove it to the shop and I called her to ask if she saw it smoking and she said nothing at all.

It only accelerates at about 15% power I would say so it goes but extremely slow. No matter what I press down on the accelerator. The more I push down the slower it wants to accelerate. The shop said everything was bolted up and nothing was loose and all connected.

That's a new one for me boss, only thing I can imagine making a turbo not spool at all....especially the way ours is connected is something jammed up the fins on hot side bent so they aren't moving...
    That's like so unlikely...

Unless it starved of oil and siezed... either way hit up Andrew M with ORT I'm pretty sure he always got oems on hand with 20-40k on em for ~850 and he'll get it to ya quick.

We don't have screens so check all your feeds are good etc.

I'd kinda wanna dig around more myself that's weird I don't think EPL was pushing stock turbo way out of its efficiency or anything.

Andrew M with ORT? Where do I find him? I saw an Andy selling a stock turbo in classified section for $850. Is that possibly the same person?

Was thinking if it's definitely the turbo I might go hybrid.

I know the TTE710 and 810 go for $4k plus and I saw the Pure750 for $3300 with a refundable $800 core charge so it would be $2500 for it. Why is the Pure750 so much cheaper than the TTE? Any downsides to the Pure750 besides only IE having a tune out for them so far with 034 still trying to get theirs out?

They are pretty similar but pures have failed here and there and TTE I've never heard of any.

I know some people run pure still on 034 it's just not fully optimized... technically IEs isn't either if it's marketed for both as they do have slightly different curves.

I think one torques in earlier, one pushes power up top better... essentially.

Do you run E files or just 93?
Honestly imo the 710 is better on 91/93 only there no benefit to the others.

ORT will send out a core for you and handle shipping etc and consign you to bring your core in when you pick up. That way you can get the order in with TTE immediately if that's the route you're going.

Personally I had the 710 for a good bit, had opportunity to run pure and still chose to go 810.

I only run 93 and splash in some E85 as the EPL tune can handle a little extra E content but I'm definitely not looking to do an ethenol mix.

Damn I don't know what I'm gonna do. I may only be able to afford to swap in a used one since going hybrid I'd have to buy the stage 3 ECU/TCU tune. I'd be looking at over $5k probably right?

Yea about that... both companies still give a nice discount for EPL switchers if you hit em up and talk direct... but I paid ~2900+ my core for 810. Plus labor if you don't do it yourself and after discount ya def lookin at at least 1600 for the ecu/tcue tune and cable.

IE and 034 both have their perks I've now run both of you decide its time to jump in to the fun side of b9 we can chat on IG.

If you buy a core just to stay stock that's $850 dead money if you go hybrid later cuz you'll have two cores... your core can be used to make a TTE but not sure if pure will do it.... so benefit is selling the car down the road stock turbo and reselling the hybrid parted out

ECS sells the Pure750 for $3300 and there's an $800 core refund. So basically $2500. The TTE710 I saw for around $4kish to $4400 for the TTE810. The Pure750 seems like a bargain compared to the TTE but if they are failing I don't wanna risk it

Not a high rate, on this platform anyway... they've had some fk ups on others though....enough that with my car history I'm taking the path with least risk 100%

You're unfortunately two weeks late I just sold my 710 made from brand new oem core less than 10k miles for 2800 cash 2 weeks ago.

Damn that's a good deal on the 710.

Yeah not sure I wanna risk a failure with a Pure. All depends on what kinda cost I'm looking at though cuz my wife is gonna have a heart attack when she hears what kinda money I gotta throw at the car to fix it. Plus I've been driving my wife's SUV to work everyday killing gas and the only vehicle I can fit all of my 4 kids leaving my wife stranded at the house with no vehicle.

They know I'm tuned and flagged. Couldn't remove tune for a mandatory recall to purchase vehicle after my lease ended because the port needed to be re-pinned. Everything is out of pocket at this point.

Did you ever get this resolved? I’m throwing p0299 code on my 18 sq5 3.0t as well.
The car is driving normal as if it’s N/A but when I try and get into boost, it’ll only hold a tiny bit of boost, obviously not enough delivered vs. requested, and if I hold the gas down long enough, I’ll get the drive system malfunction and the CEL will light up.

No odd noises/rattling/smoke at all, drives normally, just little/no boost. Started intermittently, then got 2 weeks of normal driving, now it’s 100% of the time.

I’ve swapped in a new diverter valve but that didn’t work.

I’m thinking it’s the “n75” which seems to be called the Pressure Converter on this car. Part number is 06M906609, superseded with an A at the end now: 06M906609A. In older cars, you could disconnect the electrical plug of the n75 and the car would revert to a preprogrammed boost limit, telling you the valve has gone bad. Wonder if it works the same way with this engine.

My turbo was bad. Turbine locked up n wouldn't spin at all. Had zero boost n would barely accelerate.

Sorry to hear that. I also posted in the FB groups and it sounds like a common problem is water pump failure, causing coolant to get into the vacuum lines, which affects the n75 valve, which causes boost issues.

Yeah kinda sucks to lose a turbo with only 35k miles. Grabbed a used one off a guy on B9 Facebook group with 30k on it so hopefully it lasts lol.

I've heard of the water pump issues that have popped up but didn't realize it caused other problems besides overheating.

Hopefully you figure out the issue and it's a simple cheap fix.

This is funny to see. Just got my car back from gettig it re-calibrated after afront bumper repair. Driving on the freeway and I get the same code and no boost. Dropped it back off to the body shop who will take it to the mechanic tomorrow. I've had this happen before, right after my intercooler install when the hose popped off so I'm hoping it's the same thing.

I’m only at 30k so it’s disappointing to be having these issues.

@spacecase, please report back. I think there’s a lack of public information on the b9 3.0t issues so it helps to create searchable info. Or maybe I’m not looking in the right place.

This started happening to me after removing the front end to replace my coolant shut off and solenoid valves. When I step on it, I have no boost, then I let off and step on it again and then I get boost. I wonder what this could be.

I have a n75 on the way. Changed the n649 coolant pump switching valve yesterday but that wasn’t it. For me, coolant had gotten into that valve and probably made its way to the n75, so I’m hoping it’s a dead n75 and not a dead turbo.

I’m holding out hope the turbo is alive because I’m still it seeing hold a tiny bit of boost consistently.

It was my intercooler hose from the passenger side. Last time it popped off my driver side. I have a wagner intercooler and guess I didn't clamp the passenger side hose tight enough. Seems to be all good now.

I double checked my intercooler pipes and those are fine. I wish the problem was that simple. I'll keep looking...
