    Replacing BCM Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have an '04 B6 with what I'm nearly positive is a bad BCM. My question is if I can't find a new one with a matching code 8E0907279F, in order to use a different one how would I go about reprogramming it to work can that be done in VCDS? or, as another option, is it possible to just swap out all the modules from a different car without any programming?

I had water intrusion into the cab last time it rained and at first my wipers started running on their own, then they worked fine for a couple of days and now they don't work at all. I've been over everything I can think of, the transmission isn't seized, I tried a different motor, fuses are good, relays are good, the stalk still activates the washer jets so I don't think that is an issue. and there doesn't seem to be any wiring issues.

I don't currently have access to VCDS or any other real means right now to start testing connections but what I do have is an entire other B6 I can borrow from before I have to bite the bullet and take it somewhere as money is kind of an issue for the time being but I live in a place where it rains a lot and I kind of need the wipers to work on my daily.

I know this is probably a stupid question to a lot of you. I've just never really been great with electrical work but I still figured I'd ask while I'm still researching. Appreciate any help.

Even though no one responded, I'll post the solution anyway:

Pulled the BCM out and it was indeed saturated with water. I took it apart and attempted to dry it out but unfortunately it was done for.

I pulled the BCM out of my backup car just to try it any way even though it's a different code (8E09027279E) and it fixed everything.

So at the very least right now for anyone else who ever runs into this problem, if you can't find an 'F' code replacement an 'E' code will work, depending on the options you car may have. the 'E' code replacement fixed everything in my car with the only exceptions being that my rearview mirror doesn't auto dim and the compass doesn't work. it also forces the headlights on at all times while running.

I suspect the headlight thing is just because the '03 I took the 'E' code out of doesn't have automatic headlights so now that it's in a car that has them they're just forced on because there's nothing to tell the system it's daylight.

So for posterity's sake, this could be a bandaid for anyone who runs into this issue and doesn't have great access to parts or scrap yards.

Are you referring to the Comfort control module under the driver seat? If so, how did you get that much water under there? That’s like 3” deep. Also if yes, I have a completely different part number on the one I just took out of my 04’

Scratch that, I read your first post, you are referring to the Vehicle Electrical Control not comfort.

I believe you can recode that module so that those things work like they used to. The pop up menu will tell you how to code it.

You can, I know but I don't have VCDS or anything to work with in order to do it.

There's a few different names all these modules seem to go by. VEC and BCM are the same thing, "body control module" located behind the kick panel under the steering wheel.

as for the amount of water: this B6 is new to me and I learned the hard way that it has a water intrusion problem from the ECU box, I didn't notice it when I bought the car but the previous owner had the immobilizer deleted and absolutely mangled the ECU box when he took it apart. after getting into it all I noticed he moved all the electrical inside the cab out of the way of it minus that module so it had been in there getting rinsed for who know how long before it gave up the ghost.

so for the time being I've got a donor one installed and wrapped up until I get a chance to seal up the ECU.

you're going to have an incorrect vin code but as long as your parts car has the same options the coding should be the same. Coding is based on factory trailer hitch which never was offered in North America, auto headlights with light sensor, xenons or halogens and location for whether you need DRLs or not. E or F you can interchange as long as you don't have auto headlights IIRC.
