Retrofitting a sports diff? Is this even remotely possible

    Hi all.

    I have a B8.5 S5 2012 model without the sports diff.

I have the opportunity to pick up spares from an almost identical car - and would love to upgrade to a sports diff.

Does anyone know what this would take, and if this is remotely practical?

    Any input appreciated.

    Thanks

I don't know if it's possible but Jay Bullington has a torsen rear diff for these. Would be a much easier swap, and those are more robust than the sports diff.

Yeah if buying a car again I would buy a non sports diff car and get a torsen rear diff kit from JXB. The sports diff setup adds about 60 pounds to the car compared to a non sports diff with a torsen kit in it. 60 pounds isn't much in a 3900lb car but it's something. Since I'm pretty sure both cars have ELSD via the brake system anyway the torsen car would probably drive better without the quirky feeling in sharp low speed turns when the sport diff decides "OK lets apply a ton of bias to the outside tire to artificially FLING the car through this turn" and there would be none of the usual worry with torsen diffs where they stop working when a wheel lifts because the ELSD function would brake a wheel if it lifts.
