After fixing whatever needed to be fixed on it (changed the timing belt, rollers and tensioners, changed the front CV-joints, serviced, etc.) and realized it runs pretty nicely, I thought it'd look even better wrapped. Based on my (not so much, but some) experience, using a quality wrapping material is key. So I decided to use the Avery Dennison black matte wrap which I used before with good results.
A while ago I used the same material to wrap my Audi A6 C7. That wrap job can be seen at https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...-full-wrap-DIY
Here are some pics showing the wrapping process. Hope this will be useful for anyone who'd like to DIY wrap his/her own car.
Preparing for the wrap. Raised the car on jacks (as high as I possibly could) and removed all elements that needed to be removed. Before doing so, I have fixed some small dents and some cracks in the front bumper. Note that any fixes need to be as perfect as possible in terms of surface finish. Once applied, the wrap will show any imperfections. Don't fall into thinking that the wrap will hide something, it will actually amplify the imperfections. At least the black matte wrap.
Before starting to apply the vinyl, I cleaned every surface that was going to be wrapped with isopropyl alcohol.
Here is the car ready to be wrapped:

Started with the rear as those panels seemed to be easier (and they were):

And the trunk lid is now wrapped. Looking good so far :-) I like how the S8 badge stands out...

Moving on to the front fenders

And the engine hood/bonnet, which I found quite difficult to wrap. It took a while but managed to get it done.

Taking care of some details (used Avery Dennison carbon vinyl for the details)

And there you have it! A wrapped 1997 Audi S8!
