    Loud ticking noise on Idle/Rev

    here's a link to the video https://www.youtube.com/shorts/y178ZlpK7qU

Notice you can hear it while the car is starting at the beginning of the video.

Things to note: I've checked the other threads, none of them have the same problem in that when they rev their cars, the sound goes away, but mine gets louder. Oil level is maxed. 5w40 liqui moly
The sound eventually goes away when the car warms up. This started happening after I changed my PCV, waterpump, and thermostat a few days ago. I did reseal the injectors with o-rings from audi and used an injector kit. This wasn't happening before.

I ruled out the purge valve as that is an intermittent sound that is distinct that comes and goes. This sound louder on the passenger side where the fuel pump is.

There are no engine codes and the car is idling perfectly and pulls hard. There are no issues with the driveability.

I thought I read something about this in another thread… it might be the fuel pump… not sure if it’s indicating anything but pretty sure this is normal.

Yeah sounds like possibly coming from the high pressure fuel pump. What mileage are you at? I’d remove the high pressure pump and check the cam follower make sure it isn’t worn. It’s east to remove the pump and check 30min job

Thanks for your input, car is at 155k kms, or 96k miles. So if the cam follower isn't worn, you suspect I should just change the fuel pump out?

Just change the cam follower while you're at it they're really cheap.

Check the cam follower and honestly just go ahead and replace it while you have it off, it’s a $10 part. I’ve heard others say theirs has worn down almost flat with less than 100k miles. And make sure to get new o ring for the pump too if you aren’t already replacing the pump.

Get an automotive stethoscope and isolate the source of the noise. Step one any time you're trying to diagnose an engine noise.

There’s no such thing as almost flat for our cam follower. That’s for the 2.0L engines. Ours actually have a roller that rides on the cam. Totally different design and totally more robust than the 2.0L ones.

Thanks for your replies. I ordered the cam follower, but definitely not a $10 part haha. It was $70 CAD, which comes out to $52USD. Comes in Friday.

The Ina part number has gone up to $19 from the $12 or so I paid for one in 2021. I'm guessing you went with one with 4 rings stamped on it for $52.

What's the aftermarket like in Canada? Do any of the major US based warehouses like ECS and FCP ship up there?

They ship up here, but it's not worth it. With shipping, that part comes out to $48 USD, which is $64 CAD. We usually get hit with customs as well which bumps up the price.
I've ordered some shocks and springs off of ECS and got hit with an extra $250 for customs before.

With that being said, this one just went on sale and it's a Canadian company. https://www.parkautomotorsports.ca/p...39603028459633
