    Stock 2002 Audi TT 225 | Goal: ~250hp | Seeking Advice!

    Hi All,

I just scooped up a 2002 225 TT and I'm shooting for a bit more power. It has over 150,000 miles so I will be checking compression this weekend and will be performing maintenance all around before modding, if I decide the car is worthy.

Where do you all source parts for vehicles this old?

Based on my research so far, here is how I intend to reach 250+ AWHP:
    • GT28RS + manifold (can anyone recommend something better/more available?
    • 3" Turbo-back exhaust
    • 440cc+ injectors
    • FMIC
    • Larger brakes
    • Some kind of intake
    • Tune (recommended tuners?)
    • and any small supporting mods necessary along the way that I'm forgetting

Additionally, do these engines benefit from top end upgrades? (Cams, valves/valve springs, intake manifolds?)

Hopefully you all can give me some guidance to reach my goal by letting me know where the priorities are for upgrading.

    Thanks!

You can hit 250 awhp with the right tune and a couple supporting mods. Also plenty of hybrid turbos out there that will bolt right in (i.e., F23). You don't need larger brakes - quality pads and rotors go a long way.

A ton of vendors out there. UroTuning, ECSTuning, and FCP Euro are a few of the bigger ones that come to mind.

Keep in mind, rods are the weak link.

There's a LOT more information on the 1.8T over on VWVortex, as well.

My 2002 TT Roadster is APR stage I... 263/267 on 93 and I put a new Valeo clutch (single mass) in last summer and WOW! No supporting mods for the tune.

FCP euro, ECS Tuning for most things

The turbo is overkill for this. I just sold my Mk1 with a GT28 kit that the previous owner put on and it made really great power once the turbo spooled (~3500-4000rpm) and it really hit hard to redline. It was definitely more than 250whp and it driveability did suffer a bit because of the lag and how the boost hit - if you stayed on it, it was great, otherwise it was a waiting game to build boost again. Mine had a United Motorsports tune.

A stock or stock hybrid turbo will get you there just fine though.

CTS Turbo has a memorial day sale going right now for the exhaust. The FMIC is not really necessary, the stock side mounts are decent and going to a front mount blocks airflow to the radiator. Upgraded side mounts are nice but expensive. You can bolt on R32/VR6 front brakes but those things are heavy. You can get Porsche Boxster calipers with brackets that bolt up with stock rotor sizes - the biggest issue IMO is the front caliper design kind of sucks so going to a fixed 4-piston caliper will be a big improvement.

At this point these cars are over 20 years old and anything rubber and/or plastic is suspect. Plan on going through the car and replacing things like brake lines, ball joints, front control arms, strut mounts, shifter cable ends, motor mounts, PCV system, etc, etc, etc. I put a set of ST suspension coilovers on mine and it was such a big improvement.

Probably, but not needed for your power goals.
