Hey Guys, currently looking for a B9 Q5 Anyways I’ve found a 2012 A4 Prestige with a 6 Speed Manual! And a 2010 A5 Prestige, What is the Reliability like? Should I potentially get one?

I would post this question on the B8 A4 forum since there are a lot more B8 A4's out there and the forum is much bigger. I know there were oil consumption issues, some caused by the PCV and some caused by the rings. What years are bullet proof I don't know.

I would keep looking for that B9 Q5. The chances that both the A4 & A5 need an engine rebuild or have had a rebuild due to oil consumption are high.

if you find somthing you really love, try checking the carfax. i had no idea about the oil consumption issue til after i bought my car i thought i bought a ticking time bomb, especially with 158k. checked the carfax for service records and it had whole long block replaced at 96k. doesnt chug any oil at all.

The EA888 Gen2 2.0T CAEB engine as built by the factory is a buffet of issues. But once they are all addressed, then it operates fine. I just passed 250k miles on my MY09 CAEB. Can go 10k if I wanted to between oil changes adding not more than 1qt between.

But it's had the pistons/rings replaced. It's had the PCV updated and then replaced again later. It's had the turbo replaced. It's had the injectors replaced, twice. It's had the intake manifold replaced. It's had one timing job at around 130k miles; luckily they replaced the original design tensioner when they did the pistons/rings at 80k. At the rate of adaptation value change (still under ±1° after 120k miles), I'll probably never have to do the chain again.

So if you want a Toyota, just buy it and drive it and not have to think about it, buy a Toyota. If you want a B8 2.0T, unless you're looking for a rebuild project to do, I'd pass unless you can confirm the rings/pistons replaced and runs fine and you can validate the tensioner extension. But if you find that one, then have at it.

(why are we in the A5 forum with this question?)
