    can't figure out to reset/store TPMS for a 2012 S5 Cabrio

Page 244 says to go into MMI (ok), Car (ok), but then there is nothing for Systems or Tire Pressure Monitoring.
An I can see the symbol on the dashboard but it never lights up when I start the car.
What the heck is going on?

I have a PR code 7K0 which seems to indicate "Without direct tire pressure monitoring system" which makes no sense because it was law in Canada from 2008+

It's possible someone coded it out. I did with my prior car, a 2012 VW CC because I had summer and winter rims and didn't bother getting TPMS sensors for both sets of rims and got tired of the warning. And no, I don't care what the safety nannies have to say about this. :)

I'm pretty sure Canada never required TPMS during B8 era, and still doesn't even now.

If you had direct, it'd be 7K8 (direct, 315MHz, low). If you had indirect, it'd be 7K6 (indirect). 7K0 (none) is exactly what I'd expect on a Canadian vehicle.

I have a 2010 S5 and the TPMS is an 'Indirect' System in that car does NOT use TPMS Sensors. As such, it is NOT a 'direct pressure monitoring system'. I believe the 2012 S5 is the same (as well as all B8's after 2009). From the Manual:

"Using the ABS sensors, the tire pressure monitoring system compares the tire tread circumference and vibration characteristics of the individual tires. If the pressure decreases in one or more tires, this is indicated in the instrument cluster with a warning symbol, and a message. The driver message in the display goes out after 5 seconds. The driver message can be displayed again by pressing the !SET] button. If only one tire is affected, the display will indicate its position."

Not sure why yours isn't working/never illuminates at least during the system check on startup unless it's coded out and/or malfunctioning (though you'd likely get a TPMS Malfunction message in that case), but you might scan w/ VCDS to see if there are any issues. If it has been coded out for some reason, you should be able to re-enable it using VCDS.

    Thanks all!
The explanations help, although it still doesn't make sense as I thought TPMS was law in Canada since 2008. Maybe I'm mis-interpreting something . . .
Since it is 7K0, I assume it was not coded out, but rather never came with the car.
I doubt if 7K8 could be coded back in and made to work as there is hardware missing. Ie. the TPMS sensors and receivers.
However, I wonder if 7K6 could be coded back in and made to work as that seems to just calculate pressure differential via correlation of difference in rotations???
Has anyone ever got that to work?

You'd have to confirm if you have the low (1AS) or high (1AT) ABS module. Indirect requires the compute resources in the high module. But you're not likely to have the high module unless you have indirect (7K6) or adaptive cruise control (8T4). As I have 7K8 direct (7K8) and normal cruise control (8T1), I have the low unit (1AS).

Retrofitting the J502 TPMS control module and wheel sensors is not hard, but it's not free either. But the 7K8 system is just a low or basic implementation. So you get no tire pressure info at the dash, nor even any indication of which tire is the problem. I wouldn't retrofit B8 indirect or direct. I'd get the aftermarket valve stem systems so at least then I can have real time per tire pressure information at the dash.

2007/2008 was a US regulation, not a Canada regulation. Canada still thinks TPMS is not necessary enough to mandate.

Based on my VIN according to the Audi dealer,
I have 1AS (Electronic Stability Control) and 8T1 (Cruise Control), but not 1AT, 7K6, 8T4.
So i guess I'm out of luck for TPMS and no way to make anything work.
I suppose of have the stripo model S5 lol.

There's ways, just not worthwhile ones, imo. People have retrofit 7K8 (install the J502), and people have retrofit 1AT (replace the J104; usually UK threads chasing hill assist/hill hold). I'd get the valve stem sensors and display unit for a $100 or less (though that was a few years ago, no doubt a little more expensive now).

If it were the stripper model, it'd be 8T0, not even cruise control. :-)

    Thanks all.
You have convinced me of 2 things.
My car does not have TPMS.
And it it is not reasonable or practical to try to upgrade.
I've now learned another new things :)
