    Brake Pads recommendations pls

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
OEM originals set lasted 26k, with over 100 passes at the drag strip, roll racing and spirited driving. No actual track time, autoX, HPDEs or anything like that. Thats no longer my interest, continuing my current course of actions I was rather pleased with the OEM pads, only grip was wanting a bit more initial bite. Ive read about 10-15 threads and have some good ideas but some of you guys are way more ambitious in the Braking game than I want lol Im really just looking for an OEM + aftermarket pad, rotors look great, if you have any suggestion please lmk! thanks in advance!

Porterfield is popular. I did not heard of them until I started doing road courses and finding out how many people actually uses that brand. Take a look at Hawk brakes and read about their temperature vs pedal pressure chart, it is interesting.

    Porterfield R4-S:

Definitely the Brake pad I was looking for, Much more braking power than stock pads, actually quite surprising especially when you lay on them hard. Also has a very linear feel, excellent for modulation! Quiet, great price, built in wear sensor...Over all a Win

Have you used the Porterfield R4-S on front brakes for over 5k miles? Mine started knocking in the calipers after 5k, they worked fine but the noise bothered me so I swapped them out...maybe defective or out of spec? I still run the R4-S on my rears, no problem.

nothing noticeable until maybe 5 days of daily driving, even then its like a very light grey, nothing like the OE Brembos, dead silent and easy on the rotors so far, remaining pad material measure 5-6mm, so maybe get another 10k out of them, mostly daily use, with a handful of Track Night America events

wanted to give a 3 month Mini review check in on these...

    These pads are fkn awesome,
Now that I have had time to really dig into them, they are worth every penny. Precise controlled braking, very lineral feel, and virtually no dust. When you lay hard on the pedal its baffleing how great they are. I did the brake fluid also with BG dot4 Will be buying again

That is excellent to hear. I had Carbotech 1521 with no success. I never felt an improvement over stock and the only time that I took my RS3 to a small 1400 yard 13 turn road course the car ran out of brakes twice bad!!! I atribuye the pedal going to the floor due to the stockfish brake fluid which was just freshly serviced. The next time around I will consider the Porterfields based on your feedback and username 01turbo30v and I will also consider the Hawks because I used them on other cars and they are phenomenal too.

I think you will be very pleased, although I dont run road courses, auto X or hpde anymore and with this car, my experience with these pads has been just drag strip and fun on the streets, roll racing that kinda thing. To be perfectly honest It feels like these pads barely even broke a sweat

I'm due for a brake job. I will definitely check these instead of OEMs.

Btw, are you on OEM rotors?

Ya know, I have carbotech too and have not been impressed. They aren't bad just not great.
