Edit: dealer saw my post and followed up with computer logs and camera footage before I even called them. Just a mistake, I feel relieved. Mods please delete I can't find a way to do it myself

1k miles seems like a lot. They would have had to fill up the gas tank about 4-5 times. That's a long joy ride, so I'm not sure how much you can do without more confidence in the mileage when you took the car in.

Personally, I've learned to keep track of this. I had a Service Manager put on over 50 miles when I took my car in for an alignment. They did not align the car, as he said the car did not need an alignment after his unnecessary test drive. I forced the issue with the dealer, they put the car on the rack and it needed an alignment. It pissed me off, but there was not much else I could do. I now go elsewhere for alignments.

On a side note, we all need to watch the mileage written down when we take our cars in. Two times in my life dealerships copied mileage down wrong (higher) on a service visit. That gets reported to Autocheck or Carfax and now you have an issue. Thankfully both times I caught it.

I'm interested in the comment that the dealerships are reading our posts on this forum. That's a bit creepy.

Or smart. They were proactive in finding and addressing a problem.

Dealers have been doing that for decades. Insurance companies do the same. Always assume the everything you post online will be brought to the attention of and read by the people you're talking about.

I remember when the Impreza WRX first came to North America in the early 2000s, insurance companies were scouring forums and cancelling the policies of people who were posting photos of them tracking their cars (they used the license plates). Same thing with people who post about an accident at a track and then try and file an insurance claim.

I remember there was an Australian post here and on AW who complained that they crashed the B9 RS4 at the track. It turns out they didn't get track insurance and they didn't change their brake fluid before tracking the car. They ended up saying something about trying to claim the car was stolen and crashed with their insurance company and then they deleted the thread.

My dealership logs the mileage when you arrive, verifies with you it matches, and then takes pictures around the entire car before you have any service done. Takes less than 5 minutes and covers the dealership and customer.

Yeah, they sent me the logs from their computer scans and everything lined up with the miles on my dash. Just made a mistake on the service sheet - I should have waited to talk to them before I posted anything
