How to PWM your brushed EFK

Installed a EFK about a year ago and wasn’t really happy with it for my setup. I use a low temp thermostat and normal running temp is around 178. Run a Derale 2speed fan, only on low, since high was a bit much. In the summer heat/traffic/worst conditions it’d get up to 210+ and in winters I’d have to unplug it to maintain temp.
So after going down the rabbit hole and realizing all the different options I came up with a setup that costs about a 100$, not including fan/wiring, and allows to PWM the fan’s speed according to coolant temp.

    Main components are:

Mitsu Fan Controller: Got mine with connectors for $25 on eBay. Didn’t want to use the pigtails but finding the terminals was a pain. After a bunch of research/trail and error I found them on corsa-tech
    Small ones

    Large ones

The key part of the fan power control module is converting the puny signal from the processor into high power control of one or two fans and allows soft start.
Tons of info on controller..aka rabbit hole

For a processor I looked into the Arduino route but didn’t want to figure out the coding and don’t think it would last in a daily driver environment long term.
    Then found this

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/143561646769

This allows me to use the stock temp sensor, set a low temp for fan to turn on at 25%, high at 100%, and vary the speed between according to temp.

I’ve only tested it out but wanted to make the post while everything is still fresh for me. I’ll report back after it’s fully installed and dialed in. So far I have it turning on at 175 and by 200f it’s at full speed and seems to work perfectly!

Only other parts needed is fan, fuse, relay, and wiring.

Here’s some pictures of a wiring diagram and how I had it mocked up

I did just hardwire/relay my fuel pump and wasn’t going do a write up since that info is out there. It is kinda spread out between a few threads, so if there’s interest I can do a quick write up on hardwiring fuel pump.

I'm going to see how my temps do this summer. I only have the stock electric fans and no clutch fan. But I also have a CSF rad and no AC condenser to block it so temps tend to stay in line pretty well. If it starts to creep up ever, I'm going to follow this write up. I'm almost hoping it does bc this looks sort of fun lol.

Guessing you don’t drive it on the hottest days with no AC? Cause honestly, unless I was sitting in traffic I got away without running a EFK in summer but since it’s a daily I threw one in and obviously help level out temps. I do think the EFK helps with heat soak/IATs but hard to replicate identical conditions to say for sure.

Sorry but I have no plans going down that road. Lol. Pretty sure you could use the same hardware. The guy on eBay is really good about answering questions if that’s an endeavor you’d like to explore.

I should probably leave well enough alone, but I like trying new stuff :)

Wanted to update this after running the setup for over a month. Its been working great and normally runs right around 178. Real test was when I got stuck in traffic on the Schuylkill while it was 85f and it never got above 195. Only times I’ve seen it break 200 is on a hot start and it immediately drops under that before I even start moving. I have zero complaints and highly suggest going this route if you want more control over your EFK.

Had a few guys tell me my diagram sucks, hopefully this one is little less confusing.
