    2015 Q5 2.0T - Noise after rolling

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Taking off from a dead stop (after red light), at about exactly 15KPH (10 mph), I hear a "tok" noise (similar to hitting a piece of wood with your finger's nail. its not a metallic noise, and its pretty consistent, meaning it happens almost always at exactly 15KPH. Mostly hear it from front driver side.

Is it related to ABS, and is it normal? Not sure why its louder than I remember in the past (or if I ever heard it in the past).

    Anything I can check for?

    Thanks

does it happen while accelerating or by just rolling? Could you find a decent downhill and just release the brake to get up to 15kph? Does it happen under those circumstances? If it doesn't, we could exclude most of the drivetrain as being the source.

I think it may be the pads clearing the rotor, perhaps a warped rotor or the pads could use a bit more grease so they don't clunk when they move around.

I will have to test the accelerating versus rolling, good suggestion.

I was also thinking pads clearing or warped rotor, but then I ask myself, why does it happen at almost exactly the same 10mph mark..?

Maybe that's when there is enough force to push the pads away vs having the caliper slide. But if the Q5's have the fixed caliper it's probably when it actually compresses the caliper pistons back into the housing

If the pads tend to stick, would not I be able to test when the car is on jacks and the brake pedal is applied and released by someone else (while I turn the wheels)?
