    Roof rack and hitch ideas

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    I was looking into a roof rack and wondering what everyone had. Pics also would be great.

    Also looking into a hitch just to put a basket or bike rack. Any pics and info of what to get would be great. Thanks

    Those aren’t too bad. Alittle taller than I expected. How do they mount?

    With an A4 you're limited to a class 1 hitch-- 200 lbs tongue weight but 1 ton towing capacity, so you might be interested in a small luggage trailer for maxing your hauling capacity.

    You can even put your bike rack on top of the little trailer
    For your hitch I suggest going to etrailer.com and entering your car, then opening the trailer hitch page. They sell Curt custom fit hitches for B6 A4s. Curt's quality is excellent. Perfect robotic welds, powder coating... etrailer is also a good place to shop roof racks.

    Oh yea. Never even thought to check there. I definitely won’t be towing any. I just wanted the hitch to put cooler or luggage or something along that lines.

    Thule wingbar Evo, Audi roof box and a Curt hitch.

    Keep an eye on marketplace and you can put together some racks for cheap I think mine cost me $200ish in the end, originally they were for another car but I bought the Thule fitkit brackets for the b6 and they go right on.

    They mount like stock with the factory Thule tool into the door sill, no damage to paint or drilling done.

    Past thread covers roof racks pretty well;
    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...the-roof-rack?

    I am partial to Yakima round bar and (now discontinued) Q-towers for my B6. Ive even gone as far as to trim a couple of inches from the 48" bars so that the ends sit flush with the towers when installed on my B6, no protruding extension. While the Q towers are discontinued by yakima since 2016, you can pick up a used setup and all the toy specific accessories for dirt cheap since yakima is no longer providing fitments for the round bar systems onto new cars. Q5 clips https://yakima.com/products/q-clip are needed to adapt Q-towers from another car to fit a B6 (plenty of used Q clips available on e-bay). Even though they are a bit noisy, round bars are very stiff and handle heavy loads better than flat/aero bars that I have used. Round bars are also extremely versatile, easy to switch and mix/matchcombine between mounts for bikes, skis, kayak, cargo box, etc. Adding a wind fairing to the front cuts down on the noise.

    Did you mount with the factory Audi box clips or t channel bolts? I had to use t channel on mine in particular. Sits lower too

    The factory knobs inside the box you twist them until they click and they're tight, it's two fingers that cinch down on the crossbars, 2 in the front two in the rear. I use the roof box on my q5 with factory bars as well. This box didn't come with any hardware for t channel mounting.

    Master cargo box thread here. FYI for anyone on the market: I read all the posts when I was on the hunt.
