I purchased 1 qt. Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic 5w-30. NO 5W-40 at all..

Question: Do I need an Fresh oil change ASAP since the oil is mixed? or could I get a few more miles out the current oil. I normally change oil between 3/4k miles.

Since it's all synthetic, you should be fine for your planned 1-2K more miles before oil change. The slight difference in viscosity should not matter. You may be better served figuring out why your oil level was now unusually low.

You bought high end Pennzoil. Apparently they market two versions, one for US cars and one for "euro" cars. Probably the same oil but they list the different manufacturers' oil specifications. The "euro" version meets the appropriate VW spec. If you care, there are AZ threads where folk debate the relative merits of different brands of motor oil.

Using the synthetic 5W30 is fine BUT it should meet the VW 502 spec. You are probably perfectly fine running it the last 2,000 miles but if you plan to change this weekend then that is fine as well.


If you look at your owners manual it should state that 5W40, 5W30, or 0W40 are all acceptable but they need to meet the 502 spec.
