    Replacing Driveshaft - Question

    Hi Fellow Stage 2 owners,

During your DIY or shop trial and tribulations, if we ended up needing to replace your Drive Shaft with a new one, I have a question for you.

When installing the new DS is there any chance that it will fail the same way when being removed ? (i.e. bearings/ring coming apart inside )

Or is it somehow immune to this issue when first being installed ?

Looking to know if I need to go down this route and order a replacement from Audi.

    Thanks !

What failed on your current driveshaft? If by chance its the support bracket there is an aftermarket option that worked well for me and I saved thousands

During DP removal 2 of 8 Ball bearings came out of the retaining ring.

We were careful not to bend or have it at an angle, thinking that is the cause of the issues. Turns out you need to be very careful not to forcibly hit the driveshaft removal tool. Order of operations is key and I think Contrarian posted in another thread about a few steps you can take you ensure it doesn't occur with removing a dog bone and lifting the front engine to slid off the rear diff portion first, keep it straight, then lightly tap DS to remove from the front.

I have been attempting to repair the DS myself, have it apart and know it can be fixed (IROZ / Local Vegas DS shop) do the repair. There is a trick to getting it back together, we have tried a few different ways, we are making progress.

In the event we don't make it I'll have to replace the DS. Just hoping to get insight from others on here who have replaced it if there is any way to fail the new DS upon installation. I've heard rumors that isn't possible to happen.
