new k04 tune recommendations, possibly motoza

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm looking to replace my jhm k04 as it seems they decided to never finish the tune(sucks to have wasted a lot of money with them but I'm ready to move on). I purchased it early on about 3 years ago when it was in beta and was doing logging for them for updated revisions when I had a cam follower failure and so the car had just been sitting for 3 years until I decided to fix these past few weeks. So I contacted jhm sales and asked them if I could get their latest released tune for it and they sent me to the exact same beta file from 3 years ago so it appears they decided to never finish this tune. So now I'm wanting to just switch to another vendor cause this tune has always felt like it was severely lacking and didn't feel any faster than the stage 2 tune and actually felt worse. It seems like I want to choose between motoza and giac. So far motoza has been responsive to my emails and giac responded to one and then didn't respond anymore so I'm leaning towards motoza since they seem to be more responsive as well as willing to customize the tune for my hardware. Just wanting to mostly know if there's others that have the motoza k04 tune and are pleased with it? Should I be considering others?

I'm also looking at the K04 Motoza tune. From what I gathered I liked what the tune offered, most other people with Motoza tunes seemed happy with them, and I liked that it can be flashed at home and there's no need to bring the car into a shop or ship out an ECM just to get flashed. They were also very responsive to me as well when I reached out to them with a couple questions. Every tune is a little different and you gotta weigh pros and cons but personally I'm going with Motoza when the time comes... and by "time" I mean money lol

Yeah I like how they let you tune remote with a cable they include too. I haven't seen any negative reviews yet. I also like that they let you choose 4 fuel types. So far I haven't seen any cons.

Ive used Motoza for stage 1, 2 and now k04. Always been happy.
Another nice thing is if ya ever wanna add somethin, you can buy revisions, to tweak the file. May not be the most powerful, but a nice, reliable tune. Going off my MAF readings from a while back, id say its 320-330hp(crank). Gonna be returning after I do fods/rebuild, and ill do a few dyno runs to see what shes got. Running the CTS k04.

Do you know what your maf readings are for this 320-330 hp? Are you running 91oct?

The stock MAF diameter reads pretty darn close to a 1:1 with WHEEL horsepower.

Wheel HP is pretty loosely 80% of the engine/crank/brake HP, so if you take your MAF reading and divide it by .8 that will get you a super estimated crank HP rating.

Ok, with that then I was getting about 290-300 crank HP from jhm's when I did logging for 3rd gear pulls. But that was with their k04r.

As mentioned, ya can take MAF an multiply by 1.25 or divide by .8(same results). It doesn't totally account for timing, but its def a good guide. Highest in got on a few logs I did was 255g's. Which 255x1.25=318.75(320). My stock block file runs about 10.5° max timing adv, and 21psi, which is pretty tame. Its meant to be reliable, with nice power. Built block will bump boost to 24-25psi, but not sure about timing.

Thanks guys, I just ordered the tune from motoza. Hopefully it either gives me a bit more power or them and their logging can help me figure out why it's so lackluster. Plus I like how they have upgrade paths for tunes if I put a bigger turbo on.

Dont feel bad. I paid for this tune back in 2015. The sales person there promised me that It will be fully done within 6 months. 8 years later no finished tune. I had high hopes for them. But it seams they just abandoned this platform & its customers .

But onto your topic. Ive read that GIAC has a real good KO4 tune. Evolution Army is running it. Think he is putting down 300~whp. Which is GREAT for a KO4. I really havent done much further on my Avant since I purchased my SQ5. I have a stage2 on that & it MOVES.....

Yeah, but more like 280whp, but some of the highest #'s seen on a b7 k04. Thats on a built engine and WMI(100oct file). Thats what I wanna compare to once I'm forged and retuned..

Yeah I wanted to consider giac more as I've heard good things about their tune as well, but I don't think I have much good local giac support from tuners here. The one I messaged answered my first email but then when I asked about custom tuning they stopped responding. Whereas motoza has responded to every request pretty quickly as long as it's not the weekend and fully supports custom tuning.

Lol. Have you ever logged your MAF/timing adv, on a good pull to redline? Be cool to know how different tunes compare. I know there's other things that come into play, like engine health, but would give us an idea..

I got the motoza initial tune and 1 revision after logging and it's already for sure better than jhm's tune after multiple revisions. It has higher peak boost psi, it boosts earlier and holds it for longer, is smoother when the turbo is spooling up, and so far I have very little timing retard. Confirms for me that jhm was a waste of time and money and was a ripoff of a tune.

Word on the track is that the lead JHM tuner when they started left and created Motoza, and they've been left scrambling since... i can't confirm in anyway, that's just what the peoples say.

Custom tune the world, buy a tuning cable and work with some pros from Europe or South America who have done more with MED9 maps than any 10 year old canned tune from the US suppliers.

(Motoza being the only one I would work with here)

    Really interesting stuff....

back in the day... a handful of folks use APRs tech and did their own thing and created Revo. Then those folks got tired of working together and Unitronic was formed. Progress in tuning seems to stem from soured business relationships.
