    Toyo Proxes R888R?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Considering putting a set of these on s4 peelers, 245/35r19 8.5" wide et43 for my '18 RS3, stock suspension etc. This would be for some light track days, not street.
Any comments on the tires or specs (or fit, same size Michelin pilot alpin PA4 rub slightly on the wheel well liner up front on turns)
    'Thanks, Chris

So, I use them for my TT RS. I like how generally responsive the tire is but, I'm not confident that I would like it for a track day tire. I used them on my C7 Z06 and their characteristics are predictable until they get hot. Their initial bite is their strong suit, I would think. If you lean on that initial bite for too long, the tire will breakaway without giving you much in the way of feedback or indication of which. I had better luck with the tires using that bite to get the car pointed to where I generally wanted it to be and then easing into the power using a bit of trail braking. Granted, I'm speaking from experience from my Z06, which was a completely different vehicle from our MQB cars. The R888R is a solid tire for cold grip on 50-55F surfaces, especially in straight line excursions. However, anything below that and it has a tendency to skate. Nowhere near as bad as Nitto tires can be, as those get really greasy with heat in them but, they're an old tire design that really needs an update/upgrade.

I'm running 255/35/18's on my TT RS. They're on a set of WedsSport TC105X wheels in an 18x8.5. I have no issues with rubbing or anything of the sort but, it is a TT RS and not an RS3, sorry. On my wife's RS3, we are still running MP4S tires.

I am running 245/40/18 Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ which are now at the end of their tread life
after 44,775 miles of which 32,238 miles have been fast country back road runs 10am-2pm
on weekdays only and weather permitting. Their mounted on Neuspeed RSe10 18x8.5 wheels
on our 2019 Audi RS 3 and have servered us well. The factory setup 235/35/19 was a poor
configuration. I've been making fast country back road runs since 1957 starting in Tucson
AZ and now in Northern VA. Old age has slowed me down a bit, but still at it weekly as
    our weather permits. THANKFULLY!

Here a great guide for performance tires: https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/ar...-buyers-guide/

The Kumho Ecsta V730 and Falken Azenis RT660 are two very popular options right now. The V730 is also really cheap. Both wouldn't be great in the rain, but I haven't switched mine back for daily use yet.

I have the V730 in 265s and I would strongly recommend them. They were less than $800 on SimpleTire, in a larger size than you are looking for.
Not sure on fitment since I have an 8Y, but I do know that the RT660 run wide.

Just understand, that how tire A behaves on a given car (chassis), can be different, often vastly different, to how it behaves on car B. I've had the new "now" tire through the years be amazing on one car of mine, and then when trying on something else, it was sloppy.

I used the r888r for a few track days. They seem fine in the beginning, but only last a few heat cycles then the grip falls off. I’ve moved on to the nitto nt01. They seem to last longer.

I’ve seen other guys run Nanking and falkens and seem real happy with those as well.

My go to auto cross and track day tires have always been the Bridgestone RE-71R (now replaced by the RE-71RS) and for one season I ran hoosiers. The Bridgestones heat up FAST and have grip right away. This is preferred for low/high speed autocross, but can get a little greasy on a longer track session if you keep pushing alot with minimal cool down. The hoosiers take a lap or 2 to warm up buy they handle quite a bit of abuse over several track days. I'm planning on going with a set of Bridgestones when my 8y arrives.

Check out the Yokohama Advan A052 for track-use tires. I personally prefer the A052 over R888R, overall performance on the track is faster than the R888R. Both A052 and R888r are noisy tires to use on the street, but since you mentioned no street use, I think the road noise won't be a concern for you.

Other tires such as RE71RS / RT660 / AD09 are also great for track and street use.

You should get Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R. For track, these are the best, especially for HPDE days.
